Current and old toys

#1 PostAuthor: newz1owner » Sat Oct 28, 2023 5:06 pm

Good Evening Everyone,

Just thought I would share my current bike (CBX) and my faithful GT750 which I sold to a close friend. However, taking on-board everyone's comments from the forum and research the CBX will may have to go, to fund project Kawasaki.

Enjoy

Hi Warren,

I suppose it's all depending what you are willing to pay. However, I have heard many stories buying them cheap and then paying for it in the long run.

Kind regards,

Mark

That goes for any 40+ year old vehicle.
I do a lot of work on 650's for SE owners and the number of bikes I've seen that people buy cheap as non runners expecting easy and cheap fixes only to have wasted their money as the the cost of repairs to a moderate standard far outweighs any value the bike could possibly return.
I had a bike this week that only needed a "carb clean and set up" as it ran when put away! Three of the carbs had no floats or float needles in. The compression was 90psi on 1&4 and 80 on 2&3 when 650s should have 170ish. The starter clutch was slipping. Clutch hub rubbers were absolutely destroyed. Suspect both cam and primary chains were beyond wear limits.
The only way to get health back into that engine is a rebore and total rebuild. The rebore & parts alone would exceed what he paid for the bike.
I did get it running for him, smoked like a kipper and the crankcase vent bowl had a pool of oil after 30 seconds.
He wasn't happy!

I total agree with you and let say that bargain Z900, Z1, CBX, RD, GT750 etc you purchased needs work just like your example above, you may end up spending more money, which you should have done in the first place. That's why being a new member, I hope I get the guidance from the forum members to steer me in the right direction.

In a word, yes.
You didn't want to part with yours ( and I don't blame you) so I have this one for now (and still my trusty A4 for now).
