Z1 1973

#1 PostAuthor: Sgt.Pinback » Sat Feb 24, 2024 2:46 pm

Would like to show my new to me Z1. Bought her 2023 before xmas.
She´s my second Z1. My first one was sold some years ago to France.

The Z was initially sold and registred 1973 in Germany, so she´s a Euro spec bike.
Three previous owners from new n the records and 25k km on the clock.
VIN is 123xx and engine is 124xx.

Bike is not restored. I just took her partially apart and cleaned everything. Every nut, washer and bolt went back to were it was.

I would claim her to be in very stock condition.
Howver, the mirrors and the exhaust are Kawasaki parts but from later models.

There is a lot of knowledge and wisdom in this forum. Please feel free and ciritically ask for details to see whats wrong or not.
I would apreciate if you share you knowledge.

fantastic you've found a real gem there
would say your throttle cables look a little too long and query the routing of the brake line near top yoke that bracket is where the throttle cables go but hey its absolutely stunning
heres my 72 still to fit the 4 x 4 pipes when i get time.

Just amazing looks so very nice you must have massive smile from ear to ear every time you look at it.

I dont remember seeing bracket in front of horn before on Zed's or maybe i never noticed!

The early Z1's to my eyes are one of those rare things that was 'right' from the word go and from any angle very difficult to see anything that could be improved upon. The fact that it was the fastest thing around at the time and not exactly a slouch today is the icing on the cake. Very nice.

Excellent bike and the paintwork looks original as the lining is correct at the front and rear of the tank, correct green too.
Even the likes of Doremi and PMC can't quite get the lining right.
The only painter in the UK who seemed to understand the lining was Hutch, see the green/yellow Z1 that he painted that was featured in the Z1OC year book a couple of years ago.

Steve

Good eye, Steve.
Yes, paint on body parts, frame, engine is still the genuine paint.

Thanks to all for kind answers.
Anyway, I´d hope to get some critical questions to details.
Cheers, Uli

The brake master cylinder could be from a later model, a close up photo would confirm.

Can you please take a pic from the front of the unit.
I'm just comparing it to Bedlow's in his photo.

Steve
