Thank you - I can't take any credit for the build, I bought it pretty much as it is.

You could have bought a BMW 1200 Gs.. but you didnt, you bought a piece of history, so for that sir well done.

Strangely - I actually traded a BMW r1250 GS for a Z1A which I replaced with this Z1B

Just interested in why you would swap a UK Z1-A with a USA Z1-B?

It's a fair question - I bought the Z1a from a dealer on ebay so I'd not seen the bike other than ebay pictures until it was delivered.

When I received the bike it was burning oil, the dealer took it back to repair and after he'd sorted the top end and was delivering it back to me it developed an issue with the clutch basket so he offered me a refund with first refusal to buy it back when he got the bike sorted.

I accepted the refund and saw the Z1b for sale a few days later for significantly less than the Z1a.

Haydn,

Fair enough. I also have a Z1-B which I've owned from new (bought May 1st 1975) although it was in pieces for 43 years. I think the general opinion is that they are the best of the Z1's to ride although not maybe the most desirable to own. Pic of mine attached (although a UK bike it's fitted with a US rear mudguard as the original disappeared over the years. I've just acquired a 2nd hand european long guard which I need to get repaired and rechromed). Good luck with yours.

That's a stunner, hope mine turns out somewhere near as nice - only a few bits to sort out now - just had the rear drum skimmed, carbs cleaned, front brake pads replaced, chain needs replacing, tank has some internal surface rust which I need to sort then should be good to go.

Got my own bought as original owner sat in my outhouse with a bent rear end, caused by a mate who ran thru' a bus pull in then launched it up the road . Last tax disc 30/11/79 .
