Frame and black bits are back from the powder coaters today. It's hard to work with that lot sitting on my bench down stairs!

All that you see was sand blasted and powder coated (back door) for ?110. I thought that was very reasonable :D [/quote]

After a weekend up to me tads in Jizer - that's the carbs as clean as they're gonna get.

Whilst the screws came out OK I have replaced them all with SS jobbies from Stig's Stainless.

The site of philips zinc coated screws offends the engineer in me :D

Have now fitted taper roller head stock bearings. Had to make VDUK-123SCRAPHEAP bearing fitment tool from stuff I have scrounged from scrap bins!

If any one else needs to fit some taper rollers let me know and you are welcome to borrow it! :D

Bloody cheap powdercoating - jammy sod, cost me ?140 for frame, brake caliper, centre stand and elec box, I am very pleased with the results though. I'm dead impressed with yer workshop. Carbs look like new so Jizer obviously works well. Keep the pics coming.

Was that a mistake? It was rusted to fak so I lobbed it in the box for paint, it was that or the garbage bin. To be honest I don't know much about powder coating. If the paint cracks and falls off,I'm no worse off! I'm not sure how it compares with plastic coating ... starts with the same letter and I know the process involves heat which is why I was advised against putting the calipers in ... hammerite satin for them!

Thanks Dave.

I stripped 'em and then scrubbed them in the parts washer with Jizer, using and onld half inch paint brush and the bride's tooth brush. I then let the parts washer fill a Super Cup (special offer in Woodberry Chilcott at present - I think they're for mixing suds) with Jizer and left 'em to soak while I got on with other bits. After soaking I gave the bits more rice in the parts with the brushes. Two of the bowls had a bit o clag in the bottom I couldn't shift so used a brass wire brush in the dremmel. I polished the bowls and tops using my el cheapo mop from Machine Mart. Also any brass bits that showed were also polished. Those machines are worth their weight in gold, luckily thanks to the Chinese, you only have to pay their weight in rice  I have a wire wheel one end and mop the other. I did wash all the parts in the kitchen sink after and then dried them using the air line. Another piece of invaluable kit from MM. I have to admit though that it took a long time and all my clothes stink of Jizer :??

vduk
for the the calipers try a company called frost , mentioned on here somewhere in the past , they supply brake and caliper spray in satin black which is much more resistant to the brake fluid .
www.frost.co.uk spray is VHT sp-739.

Have finished the front wheel now; sprayed the inside of the discs with hammerite gloss and the wheel with hammerite satin. Dunno how it will survive, but it looks better now!
