Well, things have not gone very well over the last month or so, couldn't get the bike to run right! Thought it might have been bad fuel so drained the tank and flushed it, then moved onto the carbs, they were stripped and ultrasonically cleaned, checked and assembled. The final check was to balance the carbs and see if that would work, balanced them and still ran like a bag of spanners! One of my mates suggested we do a compression check, I argued that it would be a waste of time as the engine had just been rebuilt! Anyway we did and the reading were not good, 110,115,120,140 we thought we'd recheck these reading with another compression tool and came up with the same results +/- 1PSI, so the engine was stripped and sure enough brand new pistons were uncovered, went on to measure the bore and its basically oval, I suspect the person that measured the bore measured it at the bottom of the stroke, I have double and triple checked, got a couple of my lads at work to check and then took the block round to a customers who builds V8 engines for racing boats and everyone came up with the same results. This is why it blow oil everywhere, crankcase pressure!
So I've just ordered a 1075cc MTC piston kit from Joe Hooper in the U.S once here I can get the blocked bored and move on
While the block is off it will be blasted and repainted, the head will be stripped and checked will new valve guides, APE head bolts and heavy duty studs!
Once completed at least I'll know it has been rebuilt to spec, remember never assume always check.
