This is how they looked back in the late 70's - no one was interested in counting the rivets back then - this one would have looked right at home outside of the pub in '78.... Hope you'll call it done now ? I always say "your bike you can do what you want" but don't spoil it - too good for that. Great transformation.....

Thanks Dave

I've got most of the bits just sitting their begging to be fitted and bring the bike a bit more up to date, not for the purist but its my kind of thing :D just waiting for some warmer weather to get in the shed.

All ok with me - as I always say, its your bike you can do with it what you want !
Heres one I made earlier - please excuse the 42 year old picture - thats a Suzuki GSX1100 'arm in a Mk2
A couple of questions if you don't mind ? 1) Did the GSX 'arm clear the frame footrest hanger tubes ok / without adjustment ? 2) how wide is the wheel / tyre set up - obviously my old Mk2 had a standard wheel in this pic.

Cheers Dave, no the very end of the footrest hangers where the twin exhaust silencers bolt to got in the way, so hacked them off !!!!! but as ive gone 4 into 1 i can use the right footrest bolt to hold the end can. doesn't bother me about cutting them off but will keep em just in case.
the wheel is a 4.5 inch bandit wheel with a 160 tyre, it come off my GSX1100ET as ive fitted a 5,5 inch wheel on it with a 180 tyre. :D

How is the chain alignment with the Bandit arm in ?

its not a bandit swinger its off my GSX1100, (B12 swinger is in the GSX) the chain is dead straight as ive used a 3/8 offset front sprocket.

Wow... came to the thread to congratulate you on a sterling finish build and here we are off on another journey. So iv done this same conversion start to finish on a z1000 and funny enough will be moving the complete front and back end from my 77 to my 78. Most important question is what front end will you be using to match up with the rear? I presume you used a bandit or gsxr750 rear wheel?
Angus.

Too many bikes to list.

I just can't help myself :?? I intended to have a pretty much standard Z1000 BUT...... after looking at it for some time i just couldn't deal with the skinny wheels, especially when its parked next to my GSX1100 with wide wheels on.
yeah the rear wheel is a bandit and the front will be too.
I have a complete bandit front end but I know i'll have lock to lock issues, can't deal with a small amount of lock.
so i have a set of yokes off a Vstrom, they fit the 43mm forks and also have more offset so hopefully have a decent lock. If its not enough then maybe pull the tank back a few mm.

I built this last year , used Bandit front and back and obviously engine , the steering lock issue I got over with a set of billet yokes . I didn't search for another alternative at the time. I am considering going back to a Z engine , just looking into the speedo issue etc as its a later front end .
