Ground up build of a slightly knackered z1000. Intention is to build to remind me of my youth, which was some time ago, to what I would call old school modified. Period parts to be sourced.

Period performance. The sort of stuff we used to do back in the seventies. Lots of stainless, Harris, Seat, oil cooler, to name a few.

braced frame was a worthwhile period mod, especially if you're going to try and add power but looks like it's too late for that now. sorry to piss in your chips.

It'll be good to see an old school 70's style Zed !
So many get "restored" these days.
I for one don't remember ANYBODY riding about on a STANDARD Zed back then. It was part of what owning a big Zed was all about !

I know you can get kits of thicker engine mount plates - that would stiffen things up , and would be easy to add at the stage you are at now.

Bracing was considered but i am an old fart now so a bit more cautious how I will ride . Been 4 years since Ive been on a bike so sensible head will prevail. Metmachex swing arm ready to go in.

A word to the wise maybe but take care when you first fit your Metmachex swinging arm, especially if it the less common shallow braced style - the rear frame / footrest / exhaust hangers on the type of frame you have can produce clearance problems. Nothing which can't be sorted out but all too easy to put a bad scratch on a nice polished alloy swinging arm. As for frame bracing - nice to have - always important in the pub on a Saturday night - but probably 99% of all of the Zeds you ever saw back in the day managed to get along the road well enough without it
