As Baldrick says, plenty of scotch pads, plenty of degreaser (gunk etc) and plenty of elbow grease.

Time, perseverance, elbow grease. No special potions required.

ok wasn't getting any where with polishing so decided to paint, yeah i know what you are all gona say but I prefer the Z1 Z1R look, plus its a form of protection on the crank cases. just got to get the engine back in without scratching it when the frame comes back from powder coating !!!! :|

I really like the look of the engine mostly painted, it might not suit the purists but it's your ride so imo crack on with the good work..

Z1R engine was just an A2 with a coat of paint and a different number series anyway. Looks like good progress !
Did you find a back wheel ?

cheers  no not yet, TBH its the last thing on the long list of parts !!!! spent way too much as it is  just waiting for the frame to be powder coated (should be done this week) then the re-build can start (the best part of a build) while the frame's been away ive cleaned/polished/replaced loads of parts, just the small bits here and their so sort and then paint for the bodywork.
I am watching a Z1000J rear wheel that might fit but he wants £140 for it !!!!! will just use the LTD wheel for now, theirs a very good chance it'll get some different wheels and suspension in the near future

Just putting on your radar, theres a pair of J/Gpz wheels "For Sale" on here - about 17 posts from the top for fair money - maybe just a run over the A66 ! (not mine by the way !)
I wrote a more detailed reply to your recent post but this Forum "timed out" on my log in and what I wrote was lost - not good !
Good luck with the project.

Engine looks nice and tidy! and sure if you are doing a style swap all rules are off. Do what you like and what looks good to you. Im keen to see how this turns out, popcorn in hand.

I'm afraid i don't do standard bikes !!!! this one will get some mods over time.

this is one I built a few years ago, another with a 1200 bandit engine.
