Is it easy to take old rear shocks to bits and reasemble them ? Whats the procedure as manuals always seem to say that they are sealed units.

Yes it's fairly easy to split the shocks.I had to make a coil spring clamp using some threaded bar and 25mm angle iron.I compressed the springs with the compressor then drove the roll pin out of the top mount.There is then a lock nut that locks the damper rod to the top mount.Unscrew these and then it all comes apart.All this assumes that you have shocks without the shrouds.In that case i assume that you would have to be more inventive with the clamping arrangement.

Thanks for the kind words chaps,its much appreciated.Btw Jim the lathe is a model b which is ideal for metric screw cutting,made in 1970.Its ex school so very light use,i have owned it about 10 years and gave 400 quid for it.
