I have "rejuvinated" an old V&H pipe..... but as of tonight I got a nice handmade s/s Harris replica - also has option to swap with a Piper style end can - off good old eBay.
Last night I got the tank off and found a pair of Green Dyna coils already fitted.... then took the carbs off and fitted a manual cam chain adjuster and some oil cooler take-offs.
At work I cleaned up the Z650 yokes and the front end just needs new headrace bearing then I can fit them.
Also got some new carb rubbers & think I'll fit me VM29 smoothbores c/w bellmouths

Here's the oil cooler take-off's, cam chain adjuster & new carb rubbers fitted:
Also fitted my spare Z1000 paint set & the new side panels I won in the Z1OC raffle at Blackpool:
With a twin outlet Pingel (+ reserve)...
Found the ER6n light I had stashed away for the last couple of years - it'll look smart:
Here's the exhaust I'm getting..
... so I may sell the V&H

Brief update:
I have fitted the older Z1000 front end c/w Z650 yokes... but this has raised a couple of points which I wasn't aware of
1: The clock mounting arrangement is different.
2: And so is the wiring.
Not insurmountable, but a PITA
I've also changed the R/H switchgear as the LTD has lights ON all the time - so again more wiring changes.
Photo's to follow

Had a bit of a sort out in the garage - as I couldn't find me round cam cover But found it at last......
The wiring needs a bit of a sorting
Luckily also had an ignition casing as the one fitted was a bit mullered. So I removed the square cover and decided to check the valves. All looked good inside and only a couple needed opening up, one from 280 - 270 and another 260 to 255, so well pleased.
Here's the different top yokes - need to paint the bare metal one now so I can fit the clocks easily
Wheeled the bike out and took a shot of the bike with the new/old front end
Making some slow progress - don't think the cam cover will fit without messing about - not only does it foul the chain idler! but the exhaust valve "air emission" intakes need blocking up Hey-Ho, all good fun.

kev edwards wrote:Mark, when I first bought my thou it had a foobarred yoke and I could only get 650 yokes at the time but they touched the tank so I had to make a mod to the steering stops, hopefully you don't have to do this to yours.
Think you're right - time will tell

Swapped some more bits around - fitted the other yoke and also changed the speedo drive for the original LTD one as the cable fitting is different the thread is larger on the drive.
The cam cover difference seems to be extra clearance for the cam sprox on the MKII cover - therefore the Z900 type touches the cam chain on the sprox.
Dug out some bling - my braided throttle cables
....which are now connected to the VM29 smoothbores...
It'll be a case of messing with the wiring next
