Got the selector mechanism assembled and checked all the gears appear to work...
Prepared to put the barrels on... that was a bit stressful but I think I managed to do it without breaking any rings. Those oil rings are a bugger though - once they're on the piston, each end does like to tucking under each other rather than butting up.
I used Laser piston ring compressors, which worked pretty well - the biggest issue was keeping the pistons level. I was using bits of wood, but a proper tool would have made life much easier. Hey ho. Engine seems to turn over smoothly though - and of course it's pretty snug because it's had a rebore.
Then I lapped the valves in and refitted them with new valve stem seals. Head ready to go on soon!
I've put the engine as it is so far in the frame, as it's easier to lift the frame over the motor when you only have your wife to help and with lockdown you can't really get someone strong round to help...
I've since added the timing advancer, the oil breather and oil pressure switch. I've been farting around with engine mounting brackets cobbled together as these were missing when I got the bike. The ones in the photo are some second hand chromed ones I got, but the chrome it flaking off. I also had another set which were normal black paint and rust, so I've rubbed them down and resprayed them. Soon to be reassembled with new bolts and spacers.

That is a brand new bearing on the output shaft, where the front sprocket goes by the way. I was paranoid about this because back in '87 I had one go when I was at the TT, and of course it's a crankcases split job. It was on a Harris Magnum II that I'd built that year.
Fortunately someone from my area was doing the proddy race on a GPX750, which belonged to my employer at the time, so he brought the Harris back in his van and I rode the proddy racer back home...

Another instalment... sorry it's been a while. Busy with lots of things, but progress has been made.
Put the cylinder head on and new cam shells in, and did the shims...

Made a lower engine mounting bracket out of ally...

Now I have something resembling a motorcycle. Currently working on electrics, and sorting out a rear brake (disc, disc adapter, caliper, rear wheel spacers etc).

Looking good. I was going to say Dave Solomon has some better swingarm shock mounts than the first pic I saw but I see you have used them now . Can't quite tell from that pic but have you used wider rim on the back to use same size as a B12 ??

Hi Andy. Sorry been a while since I logged on. The rear rim is a 4.5 x 17 so not as big as a modern bike. 150/70 rear tyre.
