... and here's the bike as it was a week or so ago ... things have moved on a bit since then, but nothing very big photographically ...
One big problem we had was that the tank was from a later model with CV carbs and the fuel tap would not clear the older style carb tops grrr
I had to make a new plate for the tap to sit on and weld it to the bottom of the tank further back. As you can imagine this was scary shit 
I left the tank outside for over a week with no tap and the lid open and ran some compressed air through it for a while. Before I took it back inside I threw in a lighted match. All seemed OK. All was OK except the welding of the tap mounting plate close to the edge of the seam as I couldn't get the torch in properly and despite turning up the argon pressure massively I still wasn't getting enough gas around the arc, and also there was a contaminant which spoiled the weld in a couple of places. I had to drill out the weld in a couple of spots and re-weld it before I was comfortable that it would seal properly. CB held soaking towels on the side of the tank so that I could weld without destroying the paint. Here's how it came out -
She decided she didn't want a traditional back end so I was ordered to make a very short inner mudguard from ally and then fit a custom back light into the tail piece. I have made a bracket to fit the light out of stainless, which was bloody hard to fold and was really at the limits of my folding tool - actually probably well beyond, but it made the piece

Stripping them was easy as I invested in a spring compressing tool at Stafford last year, but putting them back together without buggering the paint on the spring looks a bit tricky.
ANother problem I have is the lack of headlight - CB bought one, but it is off a Suzuki and hasn't enough room in the shell for all the wiring a Zed has. I have dug out an old shell which I have cheered up with some paint, but am still on the hunt for a rim etc for it. CB has been charged with a vigilant monitoring of fleabay
