Yeah, I had one of those too - I was given it by a guy who reckoned he couldn't start it. He didn't twig it had a primer position on the petcock - he was gutted when I stuck in a pair of plugs and it fired right up on the second kick.

Whilst I was Stateside I happened to be mooching around in one of those huge auto / tool shops they have over there. Amazing how cheaply priced yet well made some of their goods are. Whilst in the auto lighting section I had something of a eureka moment when I espied some truck lights going for $7 a pop. Instead of the LED light I had planned to put on (see elsewhere) I've decided to go with this pickup truck light. The LED looked a tad too modern and square for the curvy lines of the csr. This, on the other hand, is suitably rounded, has a lowish profile and fits right over the original rear guard's lighting hump.

I've reversed the light so the clear section faces upwards. The plan is to mount the numberplate directly behind the seat thereby disguising the sudden bulky look of the rear of the seat and capitalizing on the nicely rounded stubby mudguard.

Factory customs are what the manufacturers prefer to call them. Although quite how mass-produced bikes can be called 'customs' is beyond me.

And no more clothes reeking of exhaust either! Although I kind of like that smell. My Trumpet Speed Triple has the same affect.

The Dynokit and carb repair kit have been installed. I gave the carbs a good going over with Autosol and a toothbrush. Carbs and support bracket have been fitted to the bike.



I've a stainless steel exhaust system made by Powerflow to be fitted. It's secondhand and the rear mount, one of those slotted channels with a couple of M8 bolts riding its length, is pretty chewed up. I made up a stainless cap (with holes for the bolts) to correct this monstrosity and carted it off to a local engineering shop to have it welded up. Still waiting on that. In the meantime I'm looking for longer exhaust collets as the Z1000J ones aren't long enough to clamp up. I've also got some stainless flanged nuts for the studs arriving in the post.
Slowly but surely things are coming together.

For some reason the regulator / rectifier and IC igniter are mounted under the battery box on the CSR - right in line of fire from salt water off the roads. On my old H they were mounted sensibly under the side panel out of harm's way. Now that I've ditched the standard air filter box I figured the space would come in handy for mounting a bracket that affords these vital components better protection.

Bought a set of these the other day - purely because I think they'll look good. Unfortunately I can't fit them yet - I'm waiting on a swinging arm from JMC which I ordered way back in February. When I chased up the order I was told everything was fabricated and ready for welding. "Be about three weeks" I was told ... in May!!! I've also got a stainless steel exhaust to go on ... but it'd be a pain to get the swinging arm on if I were to fit it now. I've also got a rear brake pipe made by Hel to go on but ... waiting on that goddam swinging arm!!! Everything has pretty much ground to a halt.

I have managed to improve on the standard headlamp though. The original is a sealed beam item with a low wattage and no parking light. I bought and fitted a halogen car headlamp - intended for upgrading the old Mini's lights. Much better.

Strange the way they originally placed the electronic boxes, maybe the people from Japan really are so clean that they dont even got road dust?

Its strange some of those boxes on bikes around still function, when you see what they look like...

Only thing with that way you arranged it must be a heat issue?
Maybe more south on the globe maybe...
Time will tell.

Nah, it'll be fine. The pic makes them look closer to the engine than they are. They're a good 100 mm back from the ends of the air filters and have excellent exposure to air. On my Z1000 H they were tucked up in the confined space behind the right hand side panel and they were OK.

Everything else on the bike has been done that can be done until I get that swinging arm. On the plus side ... I've more time on my hands to spend persuing my second passion ... shooting.
