Z1000R and Z1000J Project - Oven baked paint - carbonfiber
Moderators: KeithZ1R, chrisu, paul doran, Taffus
Well, I am started on the forks, they need to be painted, only days before my new tree is coming home, so now they are ready for blasting.
I just did the last engine case.
Here is the 1000R head, waiting to be blasted.
Since I will use this head, and not the allready gold painted GPZ1100 head...
And here is the new painted engine half...
I am quite unsure about the orange... Any opinions?
I think the main colours will be gold and black.
Thats it for this time, some more sandblasting and painting now, then i will start on the engine.

You seem to get a lot of blasting done in a day. I've found that, despite having quite a large tank it can take quite a while to do one item, say, a battery box, for example. I usually have to recharge the tank per six square inches of area to clean. I was wondering if it was because the iron based media I'm using is a bit on the heavy side and take more air to push it out. Are you using plain old (dried out) sand? How quick does it strip paint / rust etc?

I am using ordinary brown blasting sand, 01-07mm i think.
When I am blasting this "soft " metal it is perfect.
But there are spots with old paint that are harder to remove than others.
And blasting head and cylinders are a challenge...between the cooling fins.
But I have to be patient...
Because in order the get the best result, all paint needs to be removed.
As we know.
Some of the old original engine paint was quite heavy to remove, and I blasted some covers I painted orange, and the new paint was just as hard to remove as the old one.
So I think this paint is very good!
Its hard to say how long time it takes pr part, but those parts on the picture took me a 2 hours time, or something, included pauses every 10 minute and pause waiting for the compressor to built up pressure again and stop.
The problem is the compressor, mine are not any pro thing...
And it is almost using over 16A, so I could not have any bigger anyway.
Next step up would be three phase.
The paint job is easy, its no use for primer, so it is coating colour straight on the metal.

Thank you!, glad that people like my work!.
Now I have to think on the swingarm issue...
I got one GSX1100 (from a Katana) swing, and one Hayabusa...
I want one from TL1000R, (advice from big green bus) but haven't found any yet, so I need to take some measurements and start thinking.
Also soon start on the engine, to put it together.
