Z1-R engine strip down report

#1 PostAuthor: HowieD » Wed Sep 23, 2009 4:55 pm

Aye up !

Sent my engine off for overhaul - 1980 60 odd thousand miles, this is what need doing according to the feedback:

re-shelling the cams
grinding in valves with new stem seals
full gasket set (genuine)
ignition system missing- please advise
new cam chain
new plastic wheel for double wheel chain guide
tensioner/chain guide damper rubbers
repair 1x starter motor bolt(snapped)
1x main crank retaining bolt snapped on disassembly-easy fix
hone the bores
re-ring pistons
skim head
paint cases

the gear box is mint as you predicted-amazing.

Ignition is sat on a shelf in my shed, I think an alternator winding is duff as well and awaiting feedback from that.

But that's it - what do you recon?

Apart from why aint i doing it myself!!! - I work away most of the year and dont have time

regards
Hx

Sounds about right to me mate.
Those are all the things I replaced on my Z1R engine with similar mileage.
