Z1B rebuild
To recap following the meltdown I bought this Z1B from Edinburgh in jan 2011. It was taxed ,MOTed and running albeit a little roughly. My intention is to rebuild it with a few improvements making it a usable bike rather than a concourse show bike. My memory of the 900s is based on the fact that by the time I started riding they where at least 5 years old and by then the original exhausts and shocks where long gone replaced by a 4 into 1 and uprated shocks. This is the look I’m going for. I’m outsourcing lots of the work and just assembling the bike myself.
The “before†pic. Note the chrome frame/swingarm
Chipped fin
Various strip down pics. Everything labelled and stored

Its all there somewhere
Heads a bit of a mess another sourced from Mr Ebay
Carbs refurbed thanks to DogsbolloxZ1b
Crank was showing signs of rust and a little notchy. General opinion on the site says it would probably have been Ok but I really want to avoid stripping the engine twice so it got refurbed and balanced
Mikey got the frame and swingarm stripped of chrome while rechroming and polishing various other bits.
After much head scratching I went down the powder coat route for the frame. He achieved a good finish with all the numbers still visible
I’m awaiting second oversized pistons from Zed power before rebore and aquablasting of the engine cases and head recondition before the engine rebuild.
That’s about it for now I’ll be sure to update as and when I make any progress
