In case anyone is interested, my bike will be on the Practical Sportsbikes stand at the London bike show on 14-16 Feb. I'll be going to the show on the Saturday, would be great to meet any Z1 members who plan on being there.

just read the whole thread , stunning bike with some seriously gorgeous parts , really like that exhaust ,shame my 1100 motor in a 650 frame will not take a standard fitting exhaust , the swingarm is a work of art too ,the caliper bracket is porn , personally im not over keen on the black fork tubes but thats just my personal taste ,lovely colour and some very clever solutions to some not so obvious details ,led indicators etc . overall a stunning build and one you must be well chuffed with .

Thanks Kenty, glad you like it. The Ohlins forks come in black or gold and I thought black was the best option. Chrome tubes would also have been nice but getting hold of the forks was hard enough. Harris had to import them from Japan. they aren't usually sold in Europe.

Assuming the bike passes its MOT then I plan to be at the Ace Café in the morning for the Kawasaki day next Sunday. Hope to see some of you there.

Ohlins now do a longer fork especially for customs FG 424 - black or gold with choice of caliper mount.

I will have to have a look at those new Ohlins. I have a 1986 Kawasaki turbo sitting in the garage as my next project. I have been told that the bike is too good to modify which makes me determined to modify it. The plan is a full sanctuary style rebuild but with modern turbo and fuel injection. Have also been looking at the new Nitron RWU forks as well.

The Z900 sailed though its MOT although it was a complete sod to get started after 6 months sitting in a corner. I managed to flood the engine and had to remove the plugs and let it dry out. When I got it out on the road it ran really well with plenty of torque everywhere. It's only done 220 miles since the rebuild so I must get some more miles on it.

The forecast for Sunday (Kawasaki day at the Ace) looks OK, so hope to see some of you there.

I might swing by but only have my Triumph running at the mo. The forecast doesn't look good.

The Ohlins are USD but 800mm long and 50/54 clamp diameters but they are the business.

It's been ages since I last posted but I am still a member and thought someone might be interested in an update. I sold the Z900, which was not the original plan, but it gave me the space and budget for a new project. It's not Z1-based but it is an air-cooled Kawasaki, a 1985 750 turbo. The original plan was for a mild restoration but it got very quickly out of control. There are very few off-the-shelf parts for a turbo so I had to get lots of things specially made. The full spec would take up a lot of space but the highlights are: bespoke Harris swingarm and yokes, Ohlins RWU forks, K Factory radial brake adaptors, specially made magnesium Dymags, Wilbers rear shock, all-new electrical system, modern Motec-based fuel injection system with all new injectors, pump, sensors etc, hydraulic clutch conversion, modern Kawasaki switchgear. I'll post some more pics if anyone is interested. I do have plans to build another Z900 special some day but it will have to wait until the turbo is done. I haven't quite finished the wiring and then it needs bodywork (currently with Flying Tiger) and finally an exhaust (hopefully Racefit).

I also plan to reinstate the pics on this thread when I have time.

Another top spec beauty

My 750 turbo is almost finished. The bike has an all-new fuel injection systems with a Motec ECU and it's off being mapped and getting an MOT. Almost everything else is done. There are some very minor things outstanding (a few fasteners to upgrade, a tweak for the hydraulic clutch bite point, revised battery tray) but it's 99% there. Ignore the black hoses, they are temporary fuel lines for the first start. Sorry for invading the Z1 space again but some of you seemed interested and it is a big air-cooled Kawasaki. Racefit built a lovely 1-off inconel/titanium exhaust and Flying Tiger did a stunning job on the paint. When it's actually on the road I plan to take it back to Harris and get it weighed. I am hoping for 130-140bhp and about 20kg less than standard, mainly from the suspension and wheels. I think the original wheels were made out of cast iron. My plan is to use tis bike, not sell it, so hopefully I will see some of you at future events.
