My Z1000A2A

Bought it in March and drove 400 faultless miles through very high winds, rain and even snow. Got it home, washed it, took the tank and panels off to have a good look at it, stuck it in the garage and didn't touch it for 3 weeks or so as it was snowing pretty much all the time. First chance I got I wheeled it out of the garage and it was running really badly. Suspected a dodgy plug as no.3 wasn't that hot. Still running badly. Took off a float bowl and a fair bit of muck. Stripped carbs and rebuilt, still running badly, worse in some ways. Got a new coil, no difference, swapped coils, no difference. Got a whole new set of plugs, no difference. Checked everything I could and it all seemed okay. Bought another set of carbs but didn't fit them.

Finally bit the bullet and stuck it in the local kawa guru mechanics shop last week.

He phoned me twice to say he was struggling and suspected valves or rings due to smoke. He phoned the next day to tell me he had cracked it and the bike was fixed bar a fek'd battery. Stuck a new battery in it today and took it for a wee spin. Yeeha, I have the z back.

So what was it?

It wasn't the rings or valves as the guru thought :?:

So if it wasn't carb related I guess it has to be electrical, so condensors maybe?, bad earth, or regulator.

Fuel leaking through the carbs filling the crank cases with petrol. Very common apparently. Don't leave it on prime for more than a few seconds.

Forgot to switch the petrol tap off on the LC the other day and when I took the exhausts off to fit the Allspeeds the right hand exhaust was full of fuel.

Took the tank off me bike tonight, put it in garage whilst fixing bike. Missus kept hassling me to walk dog, so packed everything away quickly ay 9pm, took doggy out (& the missus).
Came back to a house stinking of petrol
Must have knocked fuel tap when moving it to shut garage up, and a good 2 pints on garage floor  Thats over a quids worth  :?

You'd better put a proper tap on that it should have emptied it :D

Rich, its a twin outlet Pingel, but luckily, it was only moved a little bit, or it would have been a whole FULL tankful on the floor :| as I'd just come back from the garage :!:
