				The ZPower Project

				Hi all,
The project is based around a GPZ1100 A2 frame.
The engine is a Z1000 A1 (1977)
The idea (Plan A) is to build a vague silhouette of a Z1 but mono shocked so I will be using Z1 paintwork etc...
The plan is to only modify the frame to accommodate the project requirements so everything else can be readily bought of the shelf and therefore more easily upgraded at a later date.
Not surprisingly none of the paintwork currently fits in any shape or form.
I slipped (well not quite but hey ho) the frame over the engine to see what initial mods needed doing...
 
The first immediately obvious obstacle was the rear suspension mounting bracket which is stopping the engine from dropping in. It also gets in the way of the ZX6R swinging arm.
 
It is to late to start on it today but I have some micro adjusters at the ready...

The engine now sits in the frame and initial look at the swinging arm and tail piece fitment...

Then engine can move a little further forward but can't line anything up just yet.

				Really interested how this goes as I have a very similar project in the garage.
I have had ZERO luck in getting any tank to fit.
best effort so far was to completly screw up a Ltd tank by taking a lump hammer to the inside
Just cant find anything that will fit the wider frame tubes at the rear of the tank.
Next effort is to cut out the inner of a GPz tank and try to mate that to a tear drop outer.

have you thought about a zephyr tank?
 
Have you tried to find a second hand Zephyr tank? Like rocking horse s*%t !

Fitting the tank is a peice of cake,if you have a welder?

i tried to fit a different tank to a frame that didnt want the tank to fit (Im not sure what bike it was now?),with a hammer to the base of the tank. 

 Never again! Frames are lot easier to modify!

				The 750 Zephyr looks most like the Z1 tank, but your right...just don't come available unless they have a dent in...even thought about buying a bike and selling off all the other bits...but they still go for £1500..too rich for me!

Cutting a couple of frame tubes is a lot easier than trying to weld the base of a diffferent tank in with the chance of fuel leaks. But good luck to you Gary! lol.
Just get the grinder out and cut the frame!!!!!!!!

Sorry it's been so long but my account was foo barred but Taffus has now sorted it for me.
Right lets have a look at getting the Z1 tank on the GPZ1100 A2 frame.
First do some measuring then a couple of micro incisions in to the old bent frame and remove side rails from the GPZ frame.
 
Vuala...
 
A couple of bits to trim off the GPZ frame and tidy.

My Z1b had the fuel tank 'widened' to accommodate some chunky top tube braces but I guess altering the frame is another option.

Just a thought - have you tried the 'lock' now the front end is in, and the tank is on? 
I know others have moved the tank locations back slightly (10mm or so but be aware of the tap fitment) to achieve more lock. Easier to do it now and alter 'lock stops' / tank mounts at this stage. Like I say only thinking out loud here ......a grown up will correct me here im sure.
