Can you spot the difference?

Mine will be joining yours on Tuesday. Looks like some total lard arse sat on it and bent the shock mounting on the swinging arm. Harris are going to straighten it and give the frame a check over.

As you might I have bought a GPz1100 engine down here ready to fit in the frame, I have been told that the frame will need to be altered that much that it would be better buying a new frame, this is not an option as I would not be able to get approval to import a new frame into Australia.

Here have a read!

Hi Ian,
Steve Harris, Lester Harris and myself have had a good, long look at your rolling chassis.
We have concluded that repair and modification of the old frame to fit the GPz1100 engine will exceed the cost of a new frame.
We estimate that it would take about 50 hours @ £65/hour.
What we recommend is to repair the old frame back to original Z1A spec.
Then build a new frame and export it to you through Steve Clancy; who successfully imports many frame kits for road and racing.
Steve Clancy's contact details are as follows
469 Water Street
Hay
NSW 2711
Australia
gs1000sr@hotmail.com
This is the cost for repairing the old frame.
Strip, check and prepare for blast cleaning including transportation - 3 hours @£65/h
Rebuild seat subframe to original spec. 5 hours @£65/hr (rebuilding to modified spec will take the same time)

Basically the top frame rails have to be altered as the exhaust will sit behind them! I know that people have said that I can get brackets to make the GPz engine fit but while the frame is there my thoughts are to get everything right prior to it getting down here!

So I've bought this -

From the bloke in Australia $25,000  which is 13,500 quid! This is for a running chassis with a fairing, you'd need an engine!
Then you have to rego it and try and get it certified!
Now Norton don't bring their new bike in to Australia as its far too hard to get it past ADR's (Australian design rules) so I can't see how this bloke is getting them on the road, I have looked at this and spent over 12 months trying to find a way and concluded that it is impossible to bring a new frame in legitimately, you can bring nearly anything in if its manufactured before 1989! If he is then good luck to him but I can't afford $25K on a project!

Making me very nervous! My Magnum frame is there as well to have a bent swinging arm straightened. I was quite happily saying yes to the list of things Steve Harris was offering to do.

Well it's my turn to be confused now. :star

I guess you're having this returned to Z1A spec due to the cost of having it modded to take the later motor, but you've bought a Z1000R motoe for it :?

I've got confirmation from Oliver that I need a solid mount engine and asked him what type and he said a Z1000R would be fine. Basically any engine with two mounts at the back and one at the front!
