Well New Project time!

#1 PostAuthor: Is Vic There » Wed Dec 18, 2013 11:15 am

Hey lads,

Just got confirmation from the Australian department of infrastructure that my application to import a motorcycle built prior to 1989 has been bloody successful!

As you know I've been buying the odd part here and there as I was quite confident that I'd get the nod!

I wasn't after another project it sort of snowballed from post By Neil a member on here regarding a Harris frame he was selling!

I sent Neil a PM as I had missed out on a Harris frame that was on eBay down here a couple of years ago and thought this would be a cracking project, after doing some research the authorities here informed me that I would not be able import it as it was just a frame, had not been registered and had no frame number!

So I thought that was that, well It wasn't the only Harris Neil had, he sent me some pictures and a brief description and I agreed to buy it subject to getting the go ahead from this lot down here!

So today is the day!

I previously contacted Harris and the frame will go to them first for a new rear sub frame and a good check while its there, they are going to pack it for me and quote for shipping, once I know the dimensions and weight I'll do the same!

I reckon I'll see it in April or May, the plan is do carry out a full dry build and then strip it to paint, polish, powder coat and then build it again.

Really looking forward to this, as will finish the RGV Sheene replica over Christmas and the RG Walter Wolf just needs tyres as I like the originality.

Obviously any hints, tips and recommendations would be appreciated.

Very happy with the outcome and a massive thank you to Neil who has been a star

Here's some pictures

The frame will be at Harris on Monday, been talking to Oliver in the technical department they have modification "bars" that will allow me to fit the GPz1100 engine straight in at a cost of 65 quid, result!

Also want the side stand modification!

Does anyone recommend any other frame mods or useful alterations to consider while its at factory?

That's interesting about the GPz mod.

I ran a Z900 harris back in 1978...before they were 'Magnums' and upgraded it in '82 to a GPZ1100 without any mods needed...just stuck the new motor in...fuel injection and all.

Hmmm, interesting... what Mk/frame number is yours, I'm thinking of having the option of using a "J" motor in my Mk 1 :|

10 week waiting list minimum! Then the shipping down here, then import and customs, think I might need another project until it gets down here!
As I said on FB I have waited a long time for a Harris I can wait a bit longer!
