So, I finally got back into Botophucket again...
I'd started putting things back together after the house move, and some polishing on a few bits. the exhaust headers slipped neatly into place, but when I bolted on the up-pipe, and then tried to get the turbo in place (having to take the drain fitting off to be able to squeeze it past the modified rear engine mount), but this happened...

It appears that the little bit of polishing I did on the up-pipe was enough to create enough heat to distort it. After loosening the bolts on the up-pipe / header connection I was able to wiggle it enough to be able to squeeze the bolts in for the turbo flange, and then tightened it all up and in place.

As mentioned earlier (I think) I had to fuck about with the throttle cable mount to allow the cable to fit over the frame and past the back of the tank.

But then I tried to fit the newly painted side panel. Oh cock!

I had to take the mount off so that the panel would fit. And no, I don't want to cut into the panel.
Fortunately, I saw a bike last weekend with a HSR carb that had the cable mounted on the other side of the carb, and that is the new plan!

Is there no scope to extend the carb mount / inlet tract by just a small enough amount to get clearance?

Make sure there isn't too much stress on the turbo pipework now you've aligned everything.

I have another Z1R-TC arriving in my workshop next week or so for re-commissioning.
I also have a spare adjustable NO (normally open) adjustable turbo plenum switch if you need one.

Thanks Will, although it looks like I'm sorted with the boost retard switch now ;-)
I gave the up-pipe a little bit of heat once it was all bolted together, and common consensus is that the heat produced while riding will help it all settle into a comfortable position!
Is the TC a boggo stocko, restore-to-original one? Or something a little more exciting?
And Al, having already had to add an adaptor to get the carb to fit, I'm a little against extending the inlet tract even further. It turns out that the Mikuni HSR came with two different cable arrangements, so I'm going to pay a visit to Allens performance to see if they can sort me out with what I need! And having the cable on the other side would be a little neater I think.

Dave, just noticed that my HSR42 had the cables on the opposite side of what yours shows, so I had no problems with cable run etc. My HSR was bought for an actual Hardly Movingson, so maybe that aftermarket HSR's for Jap bikes etc. have the cable run as yours shows.
How long have you had the carb Dave? It looks quite old!

I believe the TC is a stock Molly in A1+ condition, the customer wants a few essentials adding (Dyna 2000, coils, leads, HSR42, boost retard function, sump surge baffle, my special wastegate spring kit, air filter, etc.....)
Some of the last Molly's (TC2's) were apparently offered with varying levels of upgrades including welded crank, deep sump and forged pistons, though I've never seen any correspondence to support this.
I would have to edge my bets that it's still on points and has a totally standard engine but we'll see when it gets delivered.

Will - Apparently, mine is an 'early' HSR, whereas the later ones had the cable on t'other side. But I don't know when 'early' changed to 'later'...
I've had mine for about 10 years (ahem), was apparently a H-D one modified for turbo use :roll:

I think what I'd do would be to flog your hsr and buy a later model, you'll still easily sell it and the new one will end all your headaches.

Actually, at £350+, I'm starting to be rather less enthusiastic about that option...

I finally found the deep sump conversion that Big 4 Engineering made for me - it'd been put away somewhere very safe...

Aside from the deep sump conversion it has also got the oil control gate, that prevents oil surging backwards under acceleration.

But on closer inspection, not only dies the gate hinge back to prevent oil rushing backwards

It can also hinge the other way, with the potential for it to remain open under acceleration, which kind of defeats the purpose...
