I was hoping that Piggy, but have run into a stumbling block with the rear caliper :shock: It needs a full rebuild but I am not 100% sure what it comes from. And the disc doesn't quite match the caliper, or it may be the pads which are wrong :shock:

1976 KZ900 A4 fitted with a rear disc brake. Fairly sure it's from a '77/78 Z1000. Can anyone identify it?

I seem to be missing the pad springs and the anti-squeal shims.

The pad sits around 6mm too high. They overhang the disc and will obviously cause problems as the pad wears. The disc is (as close as I can measure) 277mm x 6mm. The pads are pictured with a ruler, and are 53mm high, with the centre of the holes at around 47.5mm.

Any ideas as to why the pads are in the wrong place? disc too small for a Z1000? If so, what size do I need? Wrong pads? Mismatched caliper/disc?

Z1000 caliper and torque arm, so probably Z1000 swing arm, I've just measured a rear disc I have here and it measures 290mm diameter.

The disc on your wheel is very likely a Z650 disc .

Just been out and measured a spare 650 disc and a Z1R disc .

You defo have a 650 disc .

Do you have the means to refurbish a disc? the one I have here has surface pitting on it so would need a slight skim but it is the full 8mm thickness so plenty to play with. It's undrilled, if you're interested you can have it for a lot less than that eBay one.
