More so the early Js than later Js or the R as an issue with new bikes. Any of them can start to smoke a bit once they get a few miles on like any Zed.

Re: Z1000R-2
Well my new MTC 1075 piston kit arrived a few weeks ago, the piston and block were taken to a trusted engineer who was recommended by a few Kawasaki people down here, he bored and matched each piston, really nice job. He builds Kawasaki race engines for the period racer lads and drag lads down here, he's also the agent for MTC which I didn't know because he doesn't advertise it!
So if I get time over the next few weeks, fingers crossed touch wood the Z1000R should be up and running and sounding like new, once the engine is finished I've got to check everything again and make sure its safe.
I'll post some pictures up on the weekend.

Re: Z1000R-2
Hey mate,
I have a couple of mates coming round on Sunday afternoon to help fit the block and head, the rest I can fit myself.
I'll post some pictures up next week, unfortunately I've started not to like the bike and will more than likely sell it when its up and running right.

All new seals and gaskets, just got to match the four O rings that go on the top of the barrel, if you want all the old gaskets and seals pm me your address and I'll post them overs, the engine was "rebuilt" so I'm assuming that the seals and gaskets are near enough new, also replacing the cylinder head bolts. You can have all the old stuff if there any use to you.

Re: Z1000R-2
Are you going to use the standard cam chain tensioner or fit a manual one?
I fitted a manual APE one when I rebuilt my top end as the spring in my standard one had seen better days.

Re: Z1000R-2
Are there really any benefits from fitting a manual tensioner on a road bike.

I suppose it depends on how good you ride, but what's the point of 1170 High Compression Pistons, Flatslide Pistons and Dyna 2000 ignition on a road bike, if you're spending a whole heap of money on the engine why not spend the extra £50 on a cam chain tensioner that can't back off, it takes 5 minutes to adjust when you're doing a service.

Re: Z1000R-2
ok you just described my engine Julian point taken. there is a but though, how do yu know when you have reached the right tension as over tight is just as bad as to loose.
the reason I ask is that I have never effed about with one.

Re: Z1000R-2
I was actually describing my engine
As for judging tension it's a bit of an educated guess, but you can feel when it's right (I hope), though my tensioner spring wasn't tensioning the chain enough so goingbyo a manual was an easy decision.
I think I read a lot of opinions on the internet and had a chat with Chris at Grumpy1260 about how tight to do it as well.
I'll also add that I'll probably take the engine apart again over winter as I think I could do with a new cam chain.

Re: Z1000R-2
if you buy a cam chain splitter/riveter you wont have to strip the engine.
