#1 PostAuthor: Teddy » Tue Dec 04, 2007 10:33 am

Starting a new tread with pictures of my bike and progress. The bike is -77 z1000 sold new in Norway. The turbo was put on the bike in the early 80's but are not sure witch year. Will try to restore it to good usable condition, and will need the help from people who know turbo's and Kawasaki's. I will throw in pictures of witch parts i have. Starting with the bike...

The zed as i bought it :??

Here's the carburator.

Does anybody know if i will get a better running bike with another one? I've seen other turbo bikes with a different type. Any suggestions?

HSR42 carb seems to be a popular choice at the moment for turbo applications. Somebody more qualified will hopefully be along to offer more info.
Nice bike by the way.

Thanks Pasc. Maybe i have to buy a new carburetor then. I'm not sure if this is the ideal type to go along with turbo..... There are some extra features on it, like the accellerator jetting system on the side. :?? But if anyone have a tip or know something about the one i have, i will listen what they have to say.

Teddy, theres a couple of chaps on here who have a lot of experience with turbos, so hopefully they'll read this & give good advice.
In the mean time, I have been offered a "Hi-capacity" turbo, designed for out-right performance:

Any suggestions what sort of max boost it would run at, and what compression I'd have to reduce me motor to :?:
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

Pigford, that looks like the stock turbo from a H**** cx650 turbo.
Don't mount it in front of the engine though, it will rub the front wheel over bumps. If I were you I'd fit a smaller battery and tuck the turbo under the seat somewhere.
Glad to be of help.

Pigford, I guess you have to decrease you compression a bit, perhaps 7,5:1.
Then you need a new bore for your engine. Just a little bit....about a
1000mm each. Max boost.... maybe 30psi ....i think.
Then :boom
You might need something to carry the damned thing too.....Or a bigger bike
Thanks anyway pigford, lets hope some chaps read this and say something that makes sense.....

Hi, it's not mounted in the front. Mounting is between the engine and the frame/batterycase. Like the ones found on z1r-tc. I'm not sure if it's off a H**** cx. I think it's ordered for the bike through a company called GIK. I've seen several similar types mounted on zed's. But thanks for your opinion.
