z1100st A1 (re - birth) lots of pics?
This will be my 1st big project for many years.
I'll make it quite clear at the start;
I'm no mechanic.
I'm no rivet counting restorer (each to their own)
I'm no literary genius
I'm no computer whizz kid
Nor some kind of photographer
I don't have a massive budget
What I hope to achieve is a fully functioning, reliable machine that has the basic original 'look' (I do, honest).
ANY advice, recommendations, sharing of your great knowledge, parts info etc etc will be greatly appreciated.ANY comments, my skin is thick and I won't get offended.
(If it's supposed to be funny and not a serious suggestion, could you please use an 'emoticon' (( cutting the top tube out of the frame to remove the engine didn't really work )) just remember, I know next to f**k all ).[/img]

Looks a great place to start it's all there .
If budget is limited .
I'd say paint, new shocks. Any mechanical or chassis issues and lots if spit and polish !
Whichever way you go good luck with it and keep the pics coming

Sorry chaps, I had to depart on family duty earlier. So here goes.
I've always had a love of the big shafty's, (probably harks back to riding proper chops for many miles ((chain hassles free)), in all weathers, all year round).
Anyways I re-kindled my not so secret affair with a former heavyweight (no jim, calm down)
the z1100st, about 2 years ago.It came out of a 'necessity', I'd had several 'unfortunate' mishaps / breakdowns with my other bikes, which culminated one sunday (trying to get to willy woods, to meet ted1r and crew) in an all I've got left to ride situation.
It was a particularly rough old beast; it had been ear-marked some years ago for a baby trike conversion, (fortunately that never happened ). It seamed to run well and got me around for a while. Then while travelling up the m1 to suires cafe 1 wednesday night the unthinkable happened. A rumbling from the motor . Nice sunny evening, it's still running F**k it, carry on. By the time I'd got their, the motor sounded like a cement mixer with bricks in the drum, but, still running bulletproof By the time I was to leave, the yard at squires was FULL the starter was just spinning on the button I got a couple of BMW riders to push start me down the yard still rattling like a bag of spanners, it got me the 60 mile back home (was later told it would be the starter clutch). Started a strip down but family commitments weighed heavily over the last year, so it was left parked up. Not had the time or inclination to do f**k all bike wise.

Both switchgears are fubar'd. Been bodged together with some 'black silicon'(amazed that they were working properly). Add them to my 'need to replace list'
the master cylinder is probably repairable (can't wait )

To remove the swingarm was a right t**t, (I'd still be trying to remove it if it wasn't for z1bmans advice/knowledge). Firstly remove the triangular plate =take out the 3 allen bolts = relatively straight forward (lubrication and some heat)

Then using a 5mm bolt (too thin for this job).Loads of heat, loads of lube, snapping bolts (plenty of washers to keep stacking up while extracting the centre 'pivot/pin'). You eventually end up with it out and you can remove the swingarm(bring back chain drives)

I put a nice cusion on the floor for the b**tead to lie down on,(cheers eddy). The f**king engine wouldn't come out. The front engine mounts/ bolts were totally welded with rust.
I threw the full arsenal at it , mega heat, mucho lube, big hammers, large cole chisels, pry bars. Then came more heat, more lube, dremel, drill, cutter and of course the customery angle grinder. I ended up cutting through the front bolt and driving out the rubber mounts with there rotted, welded sleeves. Something had to give way, it happened to be the frame mount (which bent due to the pounding it got).
