1100R Refresh

So, a few months back I picked up a nice 1100R from a very decent club member.

Unfortunately it coincided with starting chemotherapy for cancer which took the shine off the purchase a bit.

Anyway, with the late decent weather we got when the opportunity arose me and the wife took the bike out and loved every minute of it.

As the weather cooled I decided to give the bike just a small make over, due to current circumstances I never want it in lots of pieces and the intention is/was just a deep clean and return some of the modifications back to standard.

So, the bike as purchased on our last run out, note the rear tail light moved under the tail unit, tidy job but not to my taste.

So the plan is to do the rear end first, do the bits that need doing, put it back together before taking other parts off.

So first mission was to find an original rear tail light bracket, I ended up buying two from Japan, both arrived with the usual snapped indicator mounts, not divulged by the sellers on Japan EBay, beware.

Anyway, I made repairs using stronger gauge steel and it is now far stronger than the original and looks lovely in black powder coat

I know the number plate bracket bolts don't match ....yet

With that sorted it allows fitment of the original full length mudguard, I should add I'm waiting for a couple of new indicators to arrive.

So, although my intention was just to clean parts and refit them I opted to have the swingarm, brake torsion bar and foot rest brackets powder coated, swingarm is now refitted.

What's nice is that all the bolts, chain adjusters etc still have the nice black/dark green coating which is a bonus.

I also fitted a new rear master cylinder purely as I had one spare from the 1000R restoration.

Next on the list is to clean the chain, hub and sprocket before starting to polish and repaint the rear wheel gold, might be a few weeks before the next update.

Got myself away from Bergerac on the tv and decided to fit the freshly powdered footrest brackets.

Thanks for the kind words and comments guys.

Another powder coat delivery, the side covers of the airbox, the black chrome was showing its age a bit so I had them done in satin black powder, personally I prefer it to the black chrome, fortunately I have a pair of NOS if I want to put them back to factory finish.

Gave the carbs and engine a good clean as well, maybe a bit more cleaning yet.

Managed to pick up a very good chain guard on EBay.de , fitted just to keep it out of harms way with a couple of temp fasteners, will need to buy the little support bracket that keeps the guard stable at the back end.

Next job on the list is either sorting the rear wheel or the rear shocks.

Popped a few parts back on loosely, more hospital treatment tomorrow so probably be off the spanner's for a couple of weeks.

Just like to say how much I look forward to your posts and enjoy each stage of your fastidious restorations . I sort of get to live a bit of my dream of getting my 1100R back or buying another one which financially is not going to happen . There is something about the combination of all that black chrome and the lime green , just a stunning looking bike !

Well, got a bit of time on the tools, rear shocks now complete after a bit of graft, as per my 1000R I have fitted bobbins to the lower mount and had a modified paddock stand made to give more lift.

New rear disc and pads ordered, wheel to paint/polish next, horrible job ...

Chain and sprocket had a good make over as well, yes, locknuts and tab washers ....I only had locknuts with the right pitch to hand.

I love your attention to detail.

That's gonna end up looking better than it did when it came out of the factory.
