quick update,

from this very forum one of my biggest headaches was sorted..... a very kind gentleman, and great bloke (nick) was true to his word and held on to a set of original exhausts for me, i was fully aware they are not perfect but i wasn't expecting them to be as good s they are, extra bonus was .... they were a 35 minute drive from my house!
being a bit OCD the date stamp is 1978 on the exhaust so i assume from an A2? I'm ok with that as the alternative was aftermarket (which i nearly bought 4 into 1)
I've still got the semi repaired & original 1977 uk exhausts.... il save them for a rainy day!

here they are the night i got them.....felt like a kid at christmas

There were problems with the exhausts in 1977 which resulted in many being replaced under warranty.
Any 1000A exhaust with a date stamp is a replacement set.

My original set were stamped with the usual numbers and letters but the other set I bought had S1978 or 1978S on another line.

So there's a lesson there. Don't run your bike over the winter to charge the battery, don't do short hops and when you do run it get the exhausts nice and hot.

side view, complete with the restored original rear long mudguard, i searched high and low for one of these as was going to scrap this one but then found out they are non obtainable ..pattern or OEM, ..so i learned to braise!

I've got an estimated £7k in this old girl so far....why?....... because i committed to a restoration and i will see it through, hearing her fire for the first time will be worth every cold frustrated night spent in the garage....oh and the money!

Looks like I have some competition  .....

A mint original UK A1 is a very rare bird indeed. I'd think you'd still be in profit even at £7K.

I've been told many a time she is worth £5K when done !!

I've got hundreds of photos and the time I've put in is ridiculous ...almost been like a second job, NOTHING has been done on the cheap!

put me off at one point but carried on regardless. hey ho.....
