Hi csx355

I understand a bit of English but I don't know what you mean...I think it's a local expression and it means nice things, so thank you anyway. Perhaps one day I'll understand it...anyway you're welcome.
Greetings

I am working my way through "unread posts" so read this thread today. Interesting, but this just made me laugh

Lovely help and advice from other members also, well done.

Cheers Ratty - I have been swinging hot and cold with the bike at the moment. I got started re-wiring on my KL250 recently and the Z went on the back burner. Then this week I managed to get hold of a genuine air box and silencer so I'm guessing I'm back on track.

Hi Damien - to be fair the only skills I have have come from assistance on this site - wheel-building aside. I'm not far from Hayle. Why Septic?

Cockney rhyming slang . Septic tank = Yank
Sadly you are right at the pointy end... but may get down that way someday but probably not on the bike just yet

Well the Camper has been bought and the jury is still out on what bikes if any I am going to thin out. I have slowed up on my visits to the garage but bizarrely I seem to be making better progress not only on the Z but also on my KL250a1 which is now running like a little bird barring a new regulator / rectifier and pretty much ready for MOT.

So back to the Z - given that I don't actually sell it!!

Jobs still needing to be done -
Bleed rear brake - proving to be harder than I thought it would be - not sure why.
Fit the seat hinges and latch.
Fit the 4-2 exhaust properly with new copper gaskets and get the rear silencers evenly balanced.
Fit the new (to me) Air box AND SNORKEL - yee hah. In a late night moment of single malt induced calm I pressed the button on an air box silencer.
Fit the new pillion pegs.
Swap the Oil pressure light feed and the Neutral indicator feed to the idiot light console
Vacuum balance the carbs.
And then decide what if anything to do about the slight smokey left bank. I did a cold Wide Open Throttle Compression test that gave me
1 - 135
2 - 150
3 - 150
4 - 135

Which I thought was pretty good but would be happy to take advice. Almost there.

Rear brake sorted - only took 3 days, half a litre of fluid and an acute case of RSI to bleed the sod through, BUT now I have a beautiful set of fully functional Powerhouse refurbed calipers.

Idiot lights switched over - nice and easy - next stop is to try and sort out the mess that is my seat latch. The barrel lock has fused itself in the lock body - no idea what to do with this one.

Quick change of tact and get the timing on the KL spot on - test ride down the lane and she pulls through harder than a Bonobo Chimp. Happy with that. This is turning out to be a good day. Every thing rocking on nicely when I get a call from work and had to go in. At least it gave me a chance to give the Kat a run out. Gratuitous pic time.

Full day today - fitted the carbs, airbox and silencer - sorted the exhaust and de-seized the seat catch although the lock barrel itself is toast. Re-bleed the front brakes and actually had a little ride up the lane. Surprised how small the bike feels. Possibly the shocks might be a little short. She starts easily and runs sweet apart from the smoking left bank which is coming from number two cylinder. Pretty sure that I messed up on a valve stem seal as all the bores were really nice and number 2 cylinder gave me 150 psi on a comp test.
Anyway - pretty much finished - have some pics

I got to do something with the seat latch but I have really run out of steam now - whats the going rate an a Tax and MOT exempt UK Z1000A1?

I had this problem with my Z1 and with the Z1000a2 and on both occasions it turned out to be a duff Brake Outage Switch.
Located under the tank, once replace all was ok :)

I just had this, a flashing brake indicator ,on my Z1000A1. I had a hydraulic banjo switch and weirdly it was the problem, new banjo switch and all is good. The 40 year old outage switch did its job... :D :D

You are sooo close to a deal - but I need pics - you understand I'm sure .. .. .. it's not that I'm fussy or anything it's just that I'd like to check the expiry date on the Wotsits.
