Hi everyone thought I choose a title that would sum up the almost impossible task of changing a pile of mismatched bits into a working machine.

The aim of this project is to try and keep as many of the iconic zed looks as possible while updating the handling i.e. strengthen the wibbly wobbly frame and get some modern suspension components installed, I know this isn?t to everyone?s tastes but I think the club should embrace all aspects of zed ownership so if you find this kind of thing distasteful please don?t bother to comment ta . Anyway this is going to be my first attempt at posting some pictures so here goes







Making gussets not sure how much strength is going to be added with the cardboard and tape though!!


And a couple of shots of the front end with the new stem to fit the zed frame

Only joking mate. Looks like an interesting project and all constructed in the spare room. How did you wangle that with the missus?

The forks are from a gsxr1100 I think they are WP units but not entirely sure as they were an e-bay purchase, and in true blue peter style here are some drawings I did earlier today



I have been teaching myself AUTOCAD at work well work has to be of some use

I?m a very lucky chap in that the girlfriend is a mad biker babe who rides is a zephyr 1100 and is consequently very tolerant on my bike antics

I wish I hadn't ben so impatient .. I should have welded in some stiffening.

Impressed by the autocad drawing. I've got a dodgy copy, but whilst I can draw to BS308, I can't seem to get my head around autocad. If I want engineering drawings I tend to used CorelDraw or Illustrator, which isn't really the right tool and can't show isometric projections from orthographic drawings.

I had a set of ABM yokes on me old Gixer 'Fighter, and they polish up nicely too
You will have a turning circle a gnats whisker better than the QE2 tho
I'm with Ralph and BS308, 3rd angle projection and all that.....

I'm a bit worried about the cardboard gusseting you are putting in. To add a bit more strength I would use toilet roll inner cardboard tubes as well, these could be braced across the front tubes and have the added benefit that if they do need to be moved for the exhaust are relatively easy to get hold of after a few curries.
Be careful with those Ikea tapes they are not all that accurate when they have had a pint spilled on them.
Nice file work - they look so much better when those horrid slabs of steel are hacked off. Even makes me think of getting one of those nasty Kawa frames

Looks good, its a broad church on here, plenty of people like modified Bikes as well as standard.

just bit worried about the cross brace are you putting the tube back in where the main stand mounted

Not had a chance to do much with the bike this weekend, have to fix my VW van as its only running on three cylinders so its engine out time, but I thought I would put a few bits together so I could get a general idea of how the bikes going to look

AutoCAD is a very clever piece of kit its worth persevering with the bit I found hard to get my noodle round was the UCS system but when you get that sorted it gets v easy to navigate
