Fred the Zed

#1 PostAuthor: Fred the Zed » Sun Jul 30, 2017 4:42 pm

A few photos of a work in progress... When I bought it, it had a few non-original parts and lots of it had been powder coated and the electrics were unreliable so I opted to upgrade it rather than keep it original.

So far its had:

AP front calipers and brackets, braided lines, GSXR1000 master cylinder
New stanchions, 8.5kg fork springs, Racetech Gold Valves
Flatter handlebars, Superbike grips
New switchgear, modern regulator-rectifier, Dyna Ignition, Taylor leads, Iridium plugs, complete rewire, Motobatt battery
Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust
APE Oil Breather and Pingel catch tank
Keihin 29mm CR Special Carbs (airbox removed) with fast action throttle and Pingel tap
Bulldock tail tidy
Moto Martin swing arm
Ohlins KA147 Streetline shocks
AP rear caliper with PMC Underslung caliper kit
PMC extended tail cowl kit
Complete Flying Tiger paintwork
Tarozzi Rearsets

Yet to fit.... Oil Cooler kit

If I get 5 minutes (and it stops fecking raining) I'll get a couple of photos of it in its current state. I like to think it retains the original essence if Z1R whilst benefitting from some decent upgrades.

Hi Swampy

Its a keeper.

Its actually quite nice to ride in a 39 year old bike kinda of way, so I'm enjoying the fruits of my labours.

I would only sell if the offer was such that I'd be daft not to or someone wanted to swap with something that really caught my eye... Like a Spondon, Harris Magnum, Harris F1 or even a RD500LC.

Spot on that Fred! I like it. Subtle mods which don't look out of place at all!

Cheers Adrian. I will at some time post a couple of photos up of it in its current condition. I like to think of it as being nearly completed for phase 1 - The chassis. Phase 2 will be engine mods. I'm still undecided what to do.
