What's the general consensus on the extended tail unit? I've not seen another Z1R with one fitted. I really like it as I think it draws out the classic(!) lines of the Z1R. ..... Although I've kept the original just in case I change my mind.

I hadn't noticed it until you mentioned it, think I'd have gone for recessing the tail light rather than extending the tail piece, but I still think it looks good.

Do not mind the tail end. Difficult to gauge from the angled picture, could do with a side picture.

A stunning looking bike... what do you reckon on the Tarozzi rear-sets?

Most really rate them, but I found them a bit of a faff to fit. The rear brake linkage seems overly complicated to me but once fitted, they work well. They are noticeably set back and up and work well with flatter bars.

So all alterations designed to go faster - more stable etc - so how much faster is it?
A mate of mine had - and is still having - problems getting CR carbs to run smoothly with his CBX - Was it relatively straightforward fit on yours?
Looks like an ideal track day bike - might surprise some on newer machinery!

All in all I think it looks great - done but not over done.
I would love a test ride.

I never really thrashed it in its original state as it was a bit wibbly wobbly and the carburation was all over the place. The old brakes were truly shocking and I had no confidence with them, so I wasn't happy getting a move on in any place where someone might pull out on me. It certainly seems a bit more stable at speed now and stops well for a big old bird. I'd like to speed test it properly to see if its stability and turn in is any better at silly speeds and I'd have the confidence to do that with the new brake and suspension set up. Perhaps I need to get out on a track day? I think some fun might be there to be had. New tyres first though... its on the ones it came with about 5 years ago and they felt old stock then. I suppose it gives it that 1970's feel...

I had no problem with the Cr Specials, other than having to re-space them as they were set for a H*nda CB race bike. The jetting in it already was the same as recommended for an untuned Z1000 so I'm quite happy. The carbs do make a difference in terms of pick up and responsiveness, although the quick action throttle helps too. It starts easily but only idles after a few minutes of warming up properly.

The only bit I don't like at the moment is the bars. They are the right height but a bit narrow for my liking as they pinch my shoulder blades together and I like a bit more leverage on the bars. Renthals are on the cards.

Ideally, I'd like some Astralites on it and perhaps some 320mm front discs to get the unsprung weight down.. but the piggy bank is a bit bare at the moment.
