Good spot Pigford yes they do protrude. Not sure why but they do !
The other interesting thing is the head has been skimmed offset. i.e on a slope if you look at the pictures below you can see how far the head has been skimmed on the exhaust side the skimming breaks through into threads of the exhaust studs.
On the inlet side its been left higher.
Apparently this mod increases the squish to aid exhaust gas extraction and increase compression whilst retaining the valve to piston clearance on the inlet side.
Did some further work on the bike this is what it looks like now.

Got a set of 465 Webb drag race cams £150 + post ?
Re: Gpz Drag bike Project for 2018
Thanks mate but I'll stick with the 429's that are in it,
I would consider some 38/40 mm FCR's if someone has some as they may be an upgrade from the lectron 38's.

Mmmmm..... If only I could justify prying the Lectrons out of your hands....
It looks like a fun project, keep it coming!

Ian, Thanks, I'll bear you in mind if I get something else lined up carb wise.
Just to make you really sick, the bike also came with an 18" 5.0 rear Dymag,
Bob with the Orange Gpz is trying to prise it from me.

Looks like a lot of fun ahead
My P&M has a similar head mod re. the angled head skim. Quite common on this vintage of race engine.

Re: Gpz Drag bike Project for 2018
Disaster struck the yesterday,
On Sunday I moved the engine off my hydraulic bench onto the work bench and thought nothing of it.
Yesterday I went in the garage to find the engine upside down on the floor.
We had a bar through the rear monut and it looks like this hit the deck first and took the brunt of the impact its ripped out the rear sprocket side engine mount.
So what do I do now ? Weld it up, could this be done as a complete lump ? Strip it and source replacement cases ?
Just when I thought everything was going so well!!
Now then where was that advert for engine stands that I looked at twice and thought naa never needed one before why spend the £65. Oh and anyone know where I can get bolts for Shergar's stable!
