Just picked up my latest 'project'. However, not sure if I'll be keeping this one or not.

No, purchased directly from the American owner and shipped over by RB.
The other bikes you can see in the background all came out of the same container. Between us I think we unloaded about 40 bikes from two containers.
My Zed was pretty tidy compared to some of the stuff that came off!

Spent the afternoon giving a bit of a look over and underneath the crud it's not bad for something that has been stood in a barn/garage for 15 years.
Owners says it last ran in 2010, but he put a bit of oil down the bores and turned it over every now and then.
The aim is to clean it up and get it running - if it runs I'll decide what to do next. (But not likely to do a full resto as I already have another z1000 lined up for that which is already in bits).
Dropped the sludge (sorry, oil) and filter and looked under the cam cover - all looks good on the top end.
Engine turns over and has oil down the bores.
Both master cylinders bone dry and look in good shape

The good
20K miles on the clocks
Dyna ignition and coils and Accel leads/plugs
All chrome is pretty decent, just some minor rusting here and there
Frame paint is decent
Wheel nipples are still gold(ish)
Fork stanchions have no pitting
The 4 slash cut exhausts are stainless
Found a pencil and a 5 cent coin under the seat!
Tank and side panel badges are in good shape
Usual tacho drive oil leak
Anodising is intact on the front master cylinder
Brake discs look good - bit of rusting on the outer edge of the rear
Chain and sprockets look very good - not original

The bad
No keys - took me a few hours to get the seat off!
Wiring harness has been butchered (has a start button under the seat!)
Tyres are f00ked!
Horrible handlerbars
Left hand switchgear missing
Battery is bone dry
Carbs need a complete strip, clean and rebuild
No fuel tap
None standard seat (like most US based Zeds)
Horrible paint scheme!
Tank moderately rusted internally and has slight dent
Oil leak from sump drain bolt. Upon inspection no O ring
No airbox

I'm sure I can use the wiring harness, air box, ignition switch, seat lock and switch gear from my '78 z1000Ltd as I think they are the same. I've probably good a decent seat base and maybe foam I can use with a new cover
I'll ditch the slash cut pipes and fit something else as I a have Kerker or Marshall I can fit

But it's got flames on the tank - that's amazing.

Probably not the best time to admit that I used to have fringes on my leather jacket as well! When I had hair.

Lovin' the rear-end lowering kit
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

Just curious, what is the final cost , excluding the bike, of bringing it to the UK, shipping taxes etc?

Gave the bike a good clean, dropped the oil and filter and checked under the cam cover - all looks good.
Just in the process of ultrasonically cleaning the carbs prior to a rebuild as they were in a very grotty state.
With a fair wind I can get it running this week.

Carbs were in a bit of state externally.
Image
However, internally they are pretty good, hardly any wear which would tie up with the indicated 20k miles on the clocks.
Cleaned up pretty well I think.

Hopefully get the reassembled this week and I'll be closer to getting it fired up!
