Have now started to strip off the old paint, with petrol coming off a bit to easily.
Not sure what paint to use for spraying the casings with.

Hi Dunlop4
if you want my advice: take the whole engine apart, strip all the paint of the casings, degrease them with aceton, tape them off, use a good 2 component heat resistant paint and spray them.
I use the "Restom" paint and I get very good results. Have a look at my "projects" to see how I do it.
Good luck with it.

I haver decided to take the whole engine apart to have the it sprayed black. The rebore has been completed and have new pistons from IMD. The cylinder head is off being welding repair at the rev counter drive and barrels are having damaged fins repaired.
In the mean time i have repainted the lower fork legs, wheel, and brake calipers.

Hi
very, very well done!
You took the right decision to take the engine apart!
Try to find an ST front mudgard. It'll add up to the originality!

Hi Dunlop 4
that's looking very good! You did a great job! If you need advice on getting the engine in and connecting the drive shaft, don't hesitate, just ask! I can say that I have some experience in putting an ST back together...

Hi Dunlop4
That looks stunning!
I hope you have someone to help you to get the engine in, it's a heavy lump of metal (more than 90 kg) !!! Mind your back!
Don't scratch the engine or the frame, put isolation foam tubes over the frame and tie them down.
Oh and one more piece of advice; remove the camshaft cover, you'll have a bit more place to get the engine in.

Not sure if this is right, I have got two short bolts to the front engine mounting.
The exhaust is fitted.
