Z650c2 restoration

#1 PostAuthor: Bill P » Mon Oct 29, 2018 12:30 pm

Here we go on my z650 rebuild bought from D&K in the summer not quite as described and definitely not a runner
as stated on advert but you have to accept these things if you don't go to look :D
The Bodywork went to the painter weeks ago as he's always busy as he should be with the quality he turns out, so
its time to strip the engine and sort starter clutch i have done before just with sump of but have decided to blast
all the casings like i did on the z1a before , frame also stripped ready for paint or powdercoat can't make my mind
up ? should be a few pictures below

Hi Bill
I see you collect Kawasaki bikes, great hobby by the way! I can see you restore them but please stop blasting the engines. If the engines are not thouroughly cleaned after blasting, the dust gets inside and acts as sandpaper when the hot engine oil takes the microscopic parts along to the moving parts...
Nice collection you have there. I can see a Z1A, a Z1R, a Z650, a Z1000ST (E2?) and a Z1300 . Good choice, keep up the good work and enjoy them!
Let the good times roll !

Hi Bill
I use different rotating brushes, take a look at "Z1B restoration" . It takes more time and effort but it's safe for the internals of the engine.
If you use sand to blast an engine, the sand gives a fine dust and it creeps everywhere in the engine.
If you don't clean the engine parts very, very thouroughly inside, the very fine sanddust particles get into the hot oil when the engine is running and acts as abrasive paper with disastrous results ...
There are other blasting media I know,(glass pearls and some others) which are not that dangerous but anyway, I don't take the risk.
