GPZ1000RX Project

Hello thought you might like to see my project few pictures etc
ive sorted through the parts that came with the fully stripped
original engine now and stripped a few bits of the full motor that
came with it and come to a conclusion that it isn't in that good a
shape judging by bits that came out of sump and other casings so
the new plan is to build a good one out of what ive got in the
original crank cases so we,ll see how we go :D

Hi Bill
I hope you have a shop manual! Make sure both the engines are the same type before swapping parts. Mind the bearings of the cranckshaft!

The chaps in the GPZ900 club know lots about those. They're not an uncommon engine swap when your 900 goes bang, and some of them run 1000s as well as their 900s. Helpful fellows as well when I did my 900 rebuild. Could be worth joining if you need advice.

Couple of photos of progress, gotta hold my hand up an confess i bought a very nice
low mileage motor of here of a top guy so cheated :D , i do have intentions of doing
its original one day :wink: but ive slipped into the dark side and bought two 1970s
Triumph Tridents and hopefully a Commando to come so lots to play with

Been a while since any progress but everything wired up piped up exhausts on
just airbox and plugs to fit then on with the dummy tank for first fire up ,
the new airbox rubbers came today so if im lucky could hear some rumblings
tomorrow :D

Well the day arrived for first press of the starter button and blow me if she didn't fire up
immediately :D ran as sweet as a nut so will get the proper tank on soon and have a run
up the road

I'm so pleased it runs again, it always did start ok once i'd sorted the carbs out, even on the open filters, oh the tank as well, seeing as it constantly fed shite to the primarys, it was just that day outside when she nipped the crank, did you build it with the 1039 kit? or is she on the 998 bores? Don't forget to keep up maintainence of air pressure in forks as the nice people at Cradley Kwack recommended :hah!

couple more pictures showing a bit of progress tank on exhausts etc
cooling system flushed and proper coolant in ,jurys out on the exhausts
at the moment

Hey up Jes its a bog standard engine i picked up of here from John , im now in progress of
sortin engine parts to decide whether to bother doin the big bore engine

I had one of these a few years ago, loved it !
I like the exhausts. Think they give it more of an aggressive stance, and a bit of attitude it lacked as standard.
But then I've always been a fan of stubby pipes !
