The seat has arrived from Germany, it's in very nice condition. However, I will remove the cover and foam and get the base powdercoated. Not sure why this wasn't done when the seat was reupholstered.. And it doesn't have a strap. But far better than the one fitted to the bike as the base is rusted and has previously been welded.

Can anyone confirm that I am right in thinking that the exhaust from the z1000J is the same as the MK2 but with different part number and stampings?

That is what I have heard, but I THOUGHT that the J had extra mounting points on the bottom of the motor because of the front rubber engine mounts. Certainly the Z1100R did. They would be hidden though.

you're right, they are the same but with different stampings.
On the underside of the frame of my MK2 there are mounting points allthough the original MK2 exhaust I have doesn't have lugs to attach them with bolts on there.

I don't know about a K exhaust system, A J will fit and looks the same as an A3 or A4 (MK2)
Don't worry about the fitment, take care about the looks!
Most of the classic Z 900 or Z 1000 exhausts can be fitted on the MK2, even a 4 in 4 if you have the brackets to attach it to the frame.
I fitted a Z1R exhaust to a Z1000ST and only had to change the bracket a bit.
If you want your bike to have the correct looks, buy a J exhaust! Only rivet counters like me will look at the stamps and tell you it's a J exhaust...

Apologies for any confusion caused, I have just looked at the parts list for the Z1100R and my memory is correct, they have two mounts on the sump, I think and a bracket on the underside of the pipes, BUT that does not exist on the 1000J systems. I had thought they would be the same construction. Every day is a school day.

Eeeek! Just agreed to buy this rather fab z1000j, just for the exhaust system to use on the MK2!

That looks like a nice clean original example of a J to be using for spares ?
The J motor does have sump mounts which I thought the original system bolted to ?

now that's a good excuse to buy another bike: "Honey, I found an exhaust and I bought it...but it's stil mounted on a bike so I had to take that one allso...'.
I would suggest you keep the J as she is,( she looks lovely ) and find another exhaust for your MK2!

I'd love to keep the J but I really have too many bikes on the go and running out of room. (as I also have a z900a, a z1000a1 and GL1000 on the way)..
