Very nice job on the Girling shocks... I can supply the correct decals if you want, just let me know.
I also noticed that the way thay are fitted to Alan Stoole's LTD 007 is correct for all production Silver Saxons (according to my other pics on file). I've check and all the others are USD with the decal fitted the right way up. I personally just fitted them the way I liked them (conventional) then fitted the decals.

.... Just had a scan on the web and found these so it's not worth me making any at this price, way cheaper to buy here. https://www.fastguystuff.com/product-p/fg-369.htm

Neil
I will digest that in more detail once I have the engine in place , thank you for that level of detail as it’s very helpful, currently (no pun) going some spindles and nuts in the zinc and nickel jam jar , I would normally send stuff away but for this amount I don’t mind having a go , all the general nuts and bolts will be new s/s

Yes the shocks are to be fitted what looks upside down , that’s also how they were on #oo8. Didn’t see those stickers anywhere so bought 4 of the small Girling stickers, I will maybe get a couple of sets from the guy on the link - is that your Saxon (my) with Girlings in the photo? - the bike in the MCN page also has the the reservoir at the top

I dont know if this is true but I have seen bits on the net that gas shocks must be fitted in the right way up otherwise they wont work correctly- sort of see the logic as the gas would be at the top of any oil (assuming oil is present!) and the valves and plates internally would be either in gas or oil - so they have an optimum/correct design install . I dont understand the principle of the pressurised gas but it must account for the change in viscosity? remember the FVQ shocks by H , - fade very quickly .. someone can educate me pls - My 80s kawas all have pressurised forks and rear shocks with air - without the air they are saggy and soft - so does the gas take the place of a spring and its still the oil damping

Do fancy the dirty job of brakes overhaul, I’ve no experience of these Lockheed’s ?

Yes this is what would worry me about giving it a coat of laquer, to get a key you have to flatten the surface, and you might end up in the flakes, if you don’t key it will peel, so likely to be treated with farecla compound and waxed. Will touch in in small defects with a modelling paint brush

no stopped for the summer to enjoy some bike time for a change between the shed load of a work project I had on till early august , winter is looming so staring to look at it again , can you PM me your address and I will send the braking system if your still ok , I have the steering stem sorted out , wheels are coated so Id like to look at getting the chassis rolling , the engine is ready to go in , and I will look at the plumbing after, what I need to find the the short solid feed pipe in the top the top of the turbo as it got damaged by me :(
looking forward to moving it on
Started up the old girl yesterday , settles to a tickover very easily and nicely, low fuel level in tank gives some air in feed pipes I think

cheers Ray

Started work on the Saxon again , so got centre stand back from Doug Taylor fitted waiting on lock nuts, sorting out for fasteners and I will get the S/S nuts and bolts Monday, soon be ready to put frame over engine, yokes in place with new bearings with a new titanium head nut turned up - and Will Barber has done a marvellous job on the lochheeds.
A bit of work and I hope to have the rolling chassis with an engine in sooon ..better get going with it as Will is threatening to come up in January to buy a kawa turbo , but I think he wants to Kidnap his old bike back !

Looking tremendous Ray, though it might mean that you'll have to bling No.1 up a bit :D
Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh in a few weeks time.... we can then fit your AP Lockheed system on it.
