Z1000 A2 - Clutch centre nut

The worlds slowest project strip-down / rebuild of my 1000 A2 continues. I'm currently stripping the engine down to check out everything and refresh some parts before getting the cases vapour blasted. I've not done a Zed engine before but worked on a few of my bikes and been into an XS1100 this far in the past (yes it was to repair the gearbox!). I've not encountered such a stubborn clutch nut before.
Are there any tips for getting the clutch nut off with the engine on the bench. I'm close to splitting the cases but the clutch basket nut has defeated a few half hearted tries I've had at it. I have a basket holding tool (EBC - not the best design!) and been giving it a go with a long socket bar - some heat and an occasional lump hammer, on the socket bar not the nut.
Be good if someone had a tip for getting some progress with the modest selection of handtools that I have at my disposal - otherwise I may be headed to a local friendly independent car garage to see if an air-socket wrench can make a difference.
