Z1000 A1 Project Update

#1 PostAuthor: KWACKERZ1 » Fri Apr 17, 2020 11:21 am

Well firstly its confession time  I started a project thread on this I think back in 2009, I did try and find it but was unsuccessful.

So as a way of passing the time I thought I would add a new thread with pics.

The bike started its life with me like this,

A pet hate of mine is eccentric adjusters on swing arms and streetfighter lights so I started a project to update it to be a period z1000 modified bike to replicate the zed's I thought were brilliant when I started riding.

So stripped the bike and braced the frame,

My Daughter is now 21 and does'nt help anymore

I managed to source a Dresda and some MK2 maxton forks with AP brakes and dry built the bike in 2010.

Since then the bike has lounged around on my bike bench, whilst a succession of latest projects have come and gone, or are still ongoing (GPZ drag bike, Piece by piece z1000j  )
But with the lockdown, suddenly (although still working,)
I am getting less hassle from her indoors about spending time in the garage.

So I thought its about time this bike had some tlc.

This is how it looks as of last night when I dragged the covers of it.

Rear Brake reservoir and rear sets (which may change to a set of tarozzis)

I want to use a std ltd short chrome mudgaurd but would have to cut it or add a bracket to lower it to look right with the 18" wheel so thats one thing that is currently bugging me.

Anyone got any bright ideas for chrome mudgaurds that might fit ok?

nice zed very similar mods to what I am doing.
Like the finned covers I have some but not a full set.

One of the guys on here previously used a Triumph hinckley Bonny guard but I cannot remember if he had 17's or 18's

I got this from Klasmo in Germany years ago when they were still in business but I don’t imagine they made them themselves, a lot of the German bikes used to have them, I’m sure somebody might still have them. 18” front wheel the mudguards quite Zed like...

750 Zephyr was 17” front the 1100 had 18” so the 750 mudguard might not curve right

ChrisNi that mudguard from Klasmo is spot on. Might do a search on the german sites.

Did a few more bits and bobs today, sorted tail tidy after having made a new light bracket for it.

thanks chris,
painted it and fitted it last night along with the Raask rearsets and added the finned clutch cover.
Also started playing with exhaust options using what I have lying around.

Possibly make a straight stainless pipe like an old PIPER!
But this would need stainless welding and my welder is not available at the moment

IMG_1271.JPG

I like the look of this Star Pipe from the side but looks a bit large from the back.
Looks brutal and period from the side view.

Think I have either a Marshall or Vance and Hines that may work, will have a rummage tonight.

Did a few bits and bobs.
Fitted the rear caliper, this is a standard one modified and rebuilt with new pistons seals etc.
