Small update. Needed to move this along. Forks stripped and the anti dives stripped
IMG_20221005_180358_1.jpg

Lots of crusty crap in both. Going to go down the refurb route.
Special tool to remove the caps. Pistons etc. look good, just need new O rings.
Hopefully this means the front and rear suspension are sorted, just the rest to do.
Barrels and sump have been painted.
Pete

The repair kits are about to ordered and delivered to my mate the smuggler to bring them over. Hopefully he hasn't got to blag customs the same as he did for Gus' carbs.
The anti dives have been stripped and painted.

As have the forks and rebuilt with new seals.
IMG_20221029_140342_4.jpg

Now just requiring oil once the anti dives are rebuilt.
And a pic of them resting together with the fork seal tube which was actually made many moons ago for my TY.

Not sure I'm too convinced with the Tough Satin. After carefully rebuilding them they required a touch up in places. Not sure how they'll stand up on the road. Maybe I should have given them a slight heat cycle in the oven before rebuilding?

Hi Pete

you did a great job !
I see you use the same tape as I do.
The paint will become harder when it's completely cured .
Keep up the good work!

Bit more done.
It's nose needed some plastic surgery, well fibre glass.

Slowly building the layers up, will only know how strong it is once it gets some wind buffeting
IMG_20221112_151927_9.jpg

Spent yesterday removing paint and decals. Mindnumbing relentless job on the plastics.
IMG_20221112_151835_0.jpg

And got a couple of coats of filler on the tank. I'm going to sand blast the inside to get the fiddly bits
IMG_20221112_151751_7.jpg

Think this filler job will go on for a while.......

Hi Pete

yes it will go on for quite a while and when you put the first paint on, you have to fill up more...

Been a while since the last update.....I'm not quite as quick as Philippe but then again, who is?
The yokes were sandblasted a while ago and got painted the other day.

IMG_20230507_155253_8.jpg

With a lot of the frame bits done I thought I'd better pay some attention to the frame. First job was a de-shite. 40 years of gunge and chain oil in the hard to get to places. Washing machine liquid and warm water with a stiff brush seems to have lifted most of it. Then that showed up some unfinished mig robot welds. (I saw this mentioned in another post the other day)
IMG_20230507_120033_7.jpg

This will get addressed at the same time as this
IMG_20230507_151128_0.jpg

It would seem someone has attacked the RH outer centre stand mount with a hacksaw???
I can only guess that it was due to a poorly fitted 4-1 exhaust that was fitted. It's definitely been hacksawed and not bust because it's other half with the nut is perfect. Anyway, so set about making a noggin using basic tools and a bit of 4mm bar. Roughly cut the bar and clamped it to the LHS to get it's shape.
IMG_20230505_204628_6.jpg

I haven't got a 14mm HSS drill bit so a round file was used first marking the hole, again using the LHS and confirming it's size with the centre stand bolt. The it's legs were cut down to suit the remains of the mount on the frame.
IMG_20230507_151152_0.jpg

This was then secured in place using a 14/16mm piece of copper water pipe and a oil sump washer.
IMG_20230507_151749_6.jpg

With the copper in place it should be able to be welded up without welding the bolt. That's for later this week.
That 30 seconds a previous muppet spent with a hacksaw has just cost 1/2 a day. All part of the fun

Hi Pete

you're doing a great job!
Remember what I told you about the french "mechanics"...beware of them!
Their favorite tools are hacksaws and angle grinders and other tools from a medieval donjon... :ghostface
You'll get there, one piece at a time.
