Gpz1100b1

#1 PostAuthor: Robw » Sat May 09, 2020 6:49 am

Hi all, lovely weather, at least its warm in the garage. Lockdown has accelerated all my projects, so I have been working on this Kawasaki gpz1100b1. Started off as a frame from Morcambe, with the plan to use parts left over from previous builds. Strangely enough, I still have those parts and many more now.
I was very fortunate to get a NOS loom from CMSL for a bargain, which helped considerably with the build.
The engine was cheap, but looked like a ship anchor and meant a drive to Exeter to collect it, where my son had stored it.
I have learnt alot about this model and the differences between the same year models even though they look similar, Kawasaki must have been surfing the parts bins and on the saki to explain the amount of changes between them.
I am not far off completing it, originally, I was looking at getting it out for the first time at Copdock, obviously thats unfortunately not happening now, so maybe I can get a few miles during the summer months.
Rob
P.S. Would do photos but after trying to upload them, I gave up.

Hi Rob
OK! I didn't think about Wiseco pistons because I didn't used them yet.
Thanks for the answer.
Keep us updated!

After a bit of trial and error with the clutch, its really light now and the carbs are working reasonably well on the bench, its probably finished or as much as I can do until I get the paintwork back. I have a few small tidying jobs to do and a battery to get.
It looks ok, although in the future, i will get the shock springs powder coated and the seat recovered.
Its been an interesting restoration/rebuild, with all the differences between the models, the parts catalogue has been invaluable as even the models that CMSL show have different parts to the UK models.
Now its time to get it off the bench and get something else on there to prep for hopefully track days in the not to distant future.

Finally got the paintwork back in December, once the tank stripes were rectified. Sealed the tank with POR 15 and fitted a standard tap, with the new loom fitted all the electrics work perfectly. Starts up nicely, a tadge noisy with a 2 inch kerker baffle, but I like it. I have a choice of 3 seats and I prefer the one fitted now, although I might have a change of mind later. Just waiting for another mirror, I have gone for the Italian option which are also ar125 ones, should get it by February.
