GPz750A3 Unitrak

#1 PostAuthor: MDM » Fri Oct 22, 2021 12:34 pm

I bought myself a GPz750 as a birthday pressie, always liked them since my mate had one in the '90s, and while this isn't the best colour, it'll get changed at some point...
Has some period mods, like the Harris pipe and Cibie twin headlight conversion, both of which are things that I would've done if I'd had one back then, although the pipe needs some attention, as does the fuel tank (rust spots) etc.
The plan is to have it as a running restoration - fix stuff but keep it on the road, as it seems to run nicely, with a lovely quiet motor, despite over 40k miles on the clock.

Crappy pics taken in the somewhat cramped confines of the garage...

Hi MDM

looks like a great bike to me! Nice and clean and complete.
Good luck with the rolling restoration.
I see you have the same situation as I have...too much stuff and never enough room to store it.
Never mind, one day we'll both find a solution! :D

Yep, it is a little tight in there at the moment Phillipe! But hoping to have a little more space soon.
As it is, I'd noticed that the clutch pull was rather heavy, so was fiddling with it - pulling the lever in and out - trying to see if the cable was corroded or if it had heavy duty clutch springs or whatever - when ping! the cable snapped right by the lever nipple! So that put an end to dragging it out for a test ride at the weekend...

Cheers JB - it came with a few spares, and until I get chance to have a proper look I'll not really know what it needs, if anything (other than consumables and a decent paintjob). :D
And Paul, I spent a few very good trips in the Nineties chasing my mate's 750 when I had my Z650 and Z750, and since then have always hankered after one, although I have a feeling that it is going to feel slow and cumbersome after riding more recent stuff!

While there are various areas that are in need of attention - the tank is scabby, the pipe needs attention, the aftermarket short mudguard is cracked etc - the intention is to just get it up and running, MoT'd and used to see how it is first before spending much time and effort on making it look pretty.
