It’s been a while since I posted much on here due mainly to moving house and a fleeting affair with a Suzuki powered moto Martin….
But here we go again, back on the zeds now I’ve finished building a new shed only made possible by 5 weeks off work during the first lockdown, thankfully my local timber yard and roof cladding companies were still open for business.

I’ve mildly refreshed the old z650 turbo, repainted the motor, new yss rear shocks, and fitted a new Garrett gt15 turbo which was treated to a bit of an upgrade by midland turbo. She’s still getting plenty of use and we’re hoping to take her over to the Manx later this year.

The first of my new projects is now under way after buying an ‘83 z1000g based bike from a fellow forum member.
Originally built as a Wes Cooley tribute, its not in bad looking shape apart from the engine which has been left open to the elements and water ingress…..I’m currently working on the strip down and inspection……

Fingers crossed that I can upload some photos….

I’m still not sure just yet, waiting to see how much money needs throwing in to the motor first…..I had originally planned to use it for a z1r moriwaki tribute but the current bodywork is growing on me, maybe I could make it interchangeable

to be fair I have the start of a rolling chassis already for the z1r bodywork, more to come on that one as parts get gathered

The rotor puller I ordered has finally arrived so now I’ve stripped the bottom end, it all came apart quite nicely considering how difficult the top end was to remove, looks like the bottom hasn’t been opened before.
Crankshaft is now on its way to sep kegworth for it’s rebuild.

Unfortunately I’ve had to sell the round tank project bike due to an unforeseen breakdown with my van, not exactly how I’d planned things but such is life….. I have kept the engine which is ready to rebuild, sep had been struggling with the crankshaft rebuild so I ended up buying a very tidy used crank from d&k.
This will be the motor going into my moriwaki tribute bike, here’s how this stands at the moment…..but it’s all subject to change!

We also had a brilliant few days on our first trip to the Manx, I’d adapted what I think is an old z1000 grab rail to fit the 650…..and we hooned around the island watching some great racing and meeting lots of like minded souls….

The z1r moriwaki tribute bike is starting from a z1000h frame, ideal for this type of project as it has the more strengthened frame with the double skinned down tubes, I’ll be adding some more strengthening as it goes along, I’ll also need to reinstate the seat mounting hardware and some lugs and fittings that have been removed at some point in it’s life.

This weekend I collected a new to me z650c3, it was owned by my late mate, Yudi who was also a member on here…..we first met over 30 years ago and we both owned z650’s at the time, we both used our bikes daily back then and attended various events like the bulldog bash and rock and blues etc …..good times.
I don’t plan to change much on the bike, just a few more period mods and it’ll be kept just like the bikes we used back in the day….

I can’t believe how quickly the time seems to go by these days but I’m still trying to collect all the parts needed for the z1r moriwaki, I’ve been lucky enough to find a metmachex braced swing arm which I really like, unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be able to use the 5x18” astralite wheel though as it’s a little too wide….we’ll see how things work out…. in the meantime I’ve been preparing my steel framed z1 Spondon for some frame repairs, I’ll try and build it up with the z1r as effectively they’re both going to have similar power plants …
