Z1000's on the west coast

Been lurking a while and I think its time to contribute a bit, I bought this 78 z1000 Ltd (red bike) off Mark a fellow down in Cork that had built it as it is here and had it as a bit of a run around. Im about 95% done on my 77 z1000 A1 (blue bike) for the year, just a few teething issues before i Store her for the winter but the z1000 Ltd is going to keep me busy through the winter.

It sure is and modified with 2 welded on lugs to keep the gsxr break stay without an arm, like this.

Thanks mate, i run a 170 tyre on it with a 10mm offset sprocket, loads of clearance. , i have a spare one if you find one hard to find.

Thanks Philippe, iv been following your builds, in fact I have a 79 z1000 st I’m also working/gathering parts for the winter, it a chain conversation that’s all but done, the engine will be rebuilt in the coming weeks and I’ll be going for a MK2 over all look.

Yes it is in my kitchen, huge kitchen no wife..plus it’s dry and warm

The ST frame is a good option for modding asit is super strong and allows for a wide rear tyre without buggering ab9out with the frame.

That’s a fact, the bandit 1200 swingarm is lost in there. I made 2 spacers a touch over 2 cm.

If you are on Facebook take a look at Butcheredclassics.com . A few Z's on there with Bandit front and back ends and various other wheel / fork combinations. .... A few with Bandit 1200 motors too. Not to every ones taste but many start with only a frame and go from there .

No facebook but i know butchered, in fact i own a 2006 1200 and use it as a summer commuter, they did a Gpz1100 a while back and i always thought maybe.... i have a Gpz roller going spare so maybe down the line...

They are few and and getting more rare, I picked up my bandit MK2 for €2100 but it needed a bit of work, about €1500 is about as good as you will get one for but take what you need and part out the rest, still cheaper than a Gpz engine, loom and carbs these days...if you can find them, especially over here in the green Isle. I own 4 Gpz1100, dont ask how i got them, its a long story, ill sit on them for a bit, but they are all basket cases and too much work for the hear and now.

The days of 1k Bandit 12's here have dried up here , I had a couple for less but I can't believe they are realising a classic ... The Yamaha XJR 12 / 1300 a better bike to ride . As we say Blandit is a good donor bike .. If you see a cheap one over here there are couriers here that do runs to you .. Good luck .
