Z1000st part 1 just get it on the road
Hello everyone owned this bike for over 30 years but through life stuff has been sitting in my back garden covered up for 20 of those, unloved and neglected (no angry mobs please).
So part one is just to get it going again I have all the parts that I took off 20 years ago....somewhere and I find myself buying parts that I know I have....... somewhere.

Hi Mrglee
give her a lot of TLC and she'll reward you !
Please don't throw the kickstarter away, I see it's attached to the engine and it should be stored between the air filter box and the air intake silencer, under the battery box.
These become very rare and are the same as the kickstarter of a Z1R so take care of it , it's worth it's weight in gold so to speek!
The plastic toolbox is just the same, if you have it, keep it.
I hope to see a lot of pictures of the resto so keep them coming!

Tried to start the engine after striping and cleaning carbs out but got overflow from No4 and big leak on the t-piece have ordered seals and carb bits to fix must admit really disappointed as wanted to hear it sing again.
Brakes all striped and cleaned out ready for stainless kits had to order new rear master seals as the repair kit (43020-1015) is no longer available anywhere the master itself shows only very light corrosion and will clean up the front master had to put a small rod through the Banjo join and beat the piston out very bad will need re-sleeving all electrics are working though the high low beam switch broke off as soon as I touched it seen a few replacements on eBay but all have the same problem will sort this when I start part 2 well that's it for now just waiting for parts and weather.

Re: Z1000st part 1 just get it on the road
Quick update fuel tank has been treated with tank cure rust remover to be honest stunned by how clean it is in there now (like new) compared to what I started with fuel tap stared to leak during this found that little very rusty spring on the diagram broke so replaced all the bits in it and replaced the well worn screws with stainless screws did manage to tread on the fuel sender but all straighten out and it still works will be firing it up at the weekend if all goes well then onto the brakes.

Don't forget remove those air corrector jets if refitting the airbox.
Re: Z1000st part 1 just get it on the road
So had some time to do a few bits electrics now all working calipers have new seals and stainless pistons fitted front wheel bearings changed found this
30 mins later
Just the rear tyre to change and check wheel and swing arm bearings and will be on the road again

Re: Z1000st part 1 just get it on the road
Bike hasn't started well and stalls out with any throttle since I started to get it back on the road found I had a febile orange spark tracked it down to a failing ic igniter I have sourced an aftermarket replacement so thought I would see if I could fix the old one.
So what's in the box?
Two hours of digging out the potting later
Here my quest fails can't find any references to the part numbers unless anyone recognise these?

Re: Z1000st part 1 just get it on the road
Good find the cct diag.
It looks like there is a external resistor in the live feed to each coil so suggest you check these for condition and connection and voltage too.
With ignitor unit already removed you should be able to ground negative wire from coil going to ignitor briefly and get a decent spark to check everything else is working fine.

Re: Z1000st part 1 just get it on the road
Thanks guys have checked all the wiring and everything tested ok except the igniter.
The site in Dutch I cannot get to translate looks like he was trying to do what I wanted to do but in all honesty don't expect to find the part for this as over forty years old and things have got a lot smaller in that time.
