front wheel change

hi you guys and dolls.just joined the club,and having a good look round.i was wonderingif some one could give me same info,im rebuilding 1000j 1981.i wont to fit 18in front wheel from the 1000p[is this possible?]and whot elese do i need to change to make it all work ie.speedo drive,spacers? many thanxs long live the mighty Z

A Z1000P do you mean the police bike because I think they are quite bulky?
The wheel to use is a z1100r/1000r one which was 18".
I have one that I probably wont use now but because of their rarity I paid a lot for it! If your interested I might be interested in letting it go!
But its not cheap!

Hi Glenn,as Phil says the 1000P Police Bike front wheel is quite bulky and would be quite a job to fit without major work.
The 1100R Lawson front wheel is 18" and is unique to that model,so they're very hard to find.
The 1000R Lawson has a 19" front wheel as standard.
I've fitted GPz750 uni-trak wheels to some of my bikes as this gives an 18" diameter front wheel and also a wider 3" rim on the rear.
As for the speedo drive for your electronic speed sensor,just remove the circlip and locating thing
from a cable driven speedo front wheel and your away.

With a Z1000J/GPz1100 twin shock it's usually just a straight swap.
Sometimes there's a little work to do with the rear wheel depending upon the swing arm.I've had to machine 5mm off the brake caliper mounting on one of my bikes but several people I know have down this wheel swap and it's been a straight swap.
Be aware that Z1000J discs are 7 bolt fixing and GPz are 6 bolt.

My A2 is currently running standard wheels and swing arm, I wonder if 750 uni front and rear wheel will go straight in ?
Will the standard swing arm be wide enough ?
Etc etc.....
