Hi there!
Just thought I'd say hello to everyone. I've had bikes since I was 17 (now 56), and can safely say that I'm a bit bike obsessed (at least that's what my missus keeps telling me!). I've recently been very fortunate to have acquired a 1978 Z1-R (picture below if I've done it right!) I have always wanted to do a full restoration, and am over the moon that I managed to get hold of the Z1-R. The bike had been buried in a garage belonging to a relative for the last 18 years before being "liberated" last month, and I have now started stripping her down to bring her back to her former glory.
I'll probably be needing some advice or info at some point along the way...so if I do ask please feel free to take the p*ss out of any stupid or obvious questions
Cheers everyone!

I remember the first time I saw a Z1R was at Goodwood racetrack back in 1980. Unfortunately, I was riding a Suzuki AP50 and the rather lovely bird that was straddled across the Z1R wasn't impressed with a 'spotty oik' on a mo-ped gawping at her!
I think that's where my love for 'Big Zeds' began.

Good basis

especially if you got it at a relative's rate...

The Z1R had been sitting in my sister in law's garage under a pile of junk. Her ex bought it years ago but didn't do anything to it. She wanted the garage cleared, and cutting a long story short, she gave it to me (with his blessing I might add!!!). The cost? Half a day's work clearing out the junk from her garage.

Can't get much better Relative's rates than that!!
When I got the bike home, I found the original tool kit (with a few bits missing) and the original owner's manual still in its pouch tucked away in the tail section under the seat

...I was well pleased!
Thanks for the warm welcome guys...I really appreciate it. I'll keep you updated on progress.
Cheers!
