New to the forum - not so much to old Zed's.

I'm now starting to make some time to sort out a project bike I've had for around 2-3 years. My KZ1000 is a '78 in luminous red although a lot more sad looking than the pictures I see of all of the bikes on here.

The bikes all there, not been run for at least 5 years, rusty old Harris pipe, dodgy paintjob and no doubt some pretty blocked up carbs, rust in the tank - the usual thing. I'm not an experienced restorer by any means but rebuilt an engine or two and not too afraid of throwing spanners about in the shed. It will be a long haul as I typically don't have too much time on my hands, but hopefully I will have a runner next spring and a rolling project thereafter!

I had my first (and only other) Zed from the 1990's and into the 2000's. It was exactly the same model in green and was my main bike at the time - riding it all over, especially with camping gear to bike rallies and such. Good memories of riding through Germany on it and around the UK. I did enjoy that bike very much, particularly surprising the sort of Sunday sports bike riders who seemed to have all the gear but no idea how to corner :D. Hopefully this red one will be just as fun.

No doubt I will have technical questions and ask for some advice from the experienced chaps on here as I get started with seeing what's needed to do. I may also pop over to Box Hill on Sunday to see if I can bump into anyone from the club as I see there's an organised run out.

Bit rambling - but hello all :D

Welcome to the club, I'm a relative newbie and you'll find plenty of advice on here.

If your'e going to Box Hill on Sunday you'll meet the local Berks, Hants & Surrey Group who meet up the second Sunday of the month somewhere within the three counties, but it sounds like you've already seen http://z1ownersclub.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=41507 so have the timimngs.

Good luck with your project, it would be good to see some photos.

Cheers
Andrew

Thanks Andrew - yep I spotted that.

I may show my face at Box - on a modern day Guzzi if I make it over

....and so it begins. I was going to try to stick with light restoration but having had a good look at it now, I'm probably in for a more work than I first thought !
